Just reminds me of all my redneck builds I've done if it weren't for us there is alot of crap that wouldn't have been invented! Are u building that hood from scratch? I've done some fiberglass work myself and would love to see the outcome... Post some pics when it's done

Depends on how you look at it. I am building it from scratch meaning glass matt and resin but I built it over the factory hood. A good coat of wax and she was tuned into the mold. The stock hood is un molested and will be able to sold when I am done. I am going to do the same with the doors after I am done with this. I ordered resin today and might finish up the hood tonight. Gotta find a good roller. The ones I had got ruined because of the sticky resin.

So are you trying to build a mold or just putting glass over the stock hood? If you building a mold, what are your plans for underneath bracing? And if i understand one of the previous posts, your just going to put a coat of wax on the mold to act like a release agent?

What kinda intake plumbing are you running where you'll be able to use a hood scoop? Or are you gonna route something from the scoop to the air-box/filter, something like a CAI. Carburetor maybe?

I think he said he put a coat of wax on the hood so that the fiberglass doesn't stick to it as he's using that to create the mold.

The Hood is my mold. The scoop will be plumed to the throttle body. I need to come up with a scoop before the plumbing is designed. I am thinking some firebird ram air style scoops might look awesome. They are rounded like the truck and stick with the LSX herritage! Now I need to make/find some cheap firebird ram air scoops!

Here is a view of the path from header to flex pipe, out to side pipe.

On the second hole I change my plan of attack. In the remaining frame I am going to blow a 3" hole for the pipe. This will save me from having to install the insert like I will have to do on the first hole. This will just save me some cutting and welding.

This shows where the holes are. This is the drivers side under the GMC2500 badge. After looking at the heat penetration I am going to grind and re-weld the few start and stop points where the penetration wasn't as good as it could be. Again really want to make sure 2-3 times the strength I need is there! Honestly with the thickness of the inserts they should be plenty strong but I want to make sure without a doubt!

I went to the shop with the intention of working the drivers side hole and finishing the glass hood. Well a co-worker decided to hide my hardener on me and wasn't answering his phone. I spent 20 minutes looking for it before deciding to just work on the side pipe hole and he called me back after a good wile to tell me where it was. I decided it was getting too late to work on the hood so probably tomorrow I will get into work early and give it a go. Worse case I will do the hood tomorrow right after work.

Just some welding.

The side pipes are getting propane flamethrowers. Small camping tank, brass tubing, a few ignitors, nice simple and lightweight system. They are also getting blacked out if anyone missed that part.

SILVER: You refering to the shortties with your final comment?

Y
not really referring to anything specific with that comment, the build in general mainly. I hope it works for you and you meet all your goals with it... just be careful in that thing...
