Hoping to be back on the road by Friday. When I ordered the stock GM head bolts I didnt realize I needed a box for each head. So I have to wait for those to get here. Keeping the Pacesetters for now.

Old cam coming out

comparing the two

and the new one going in

It only took about 25 min start to finish to swap the cam. I used a 1ft piece of 1/2" threaded bar to help control the cam. wondering if I should try and replace the timing chain. If I do, I would have to drop the front diff so I can drop the oil pan so I can remove the timing chain. Truck only has 75K miles on it and the stock chain looked fine.

So when I went to swap the timing chain. I started unbolting the oil pan, got all 12 bolts halfway out. The front two are already out where I took the front cover off, but the oil pan wont budge. Am I missing something? the pan is drained, and the oil filter is removed.

Why would you need to drop the oil pan to pull the timing chain? You just have to unbolt the oil pump pick up and the pump from the block.

I can't get to the bolt on the pick up tube so I have to drop the pan about 1/2"

got the oil pan down. Need to stop by the dealer and get a new o-ring for the pick-up tube. Looks like I may meet my deadline of Sunday to be back on the road.

That sucks about the headbolts. Oh well, good things come to those that wait.
