My input. From experience with lesser power than this setup should make. DROP the plan for a 60e NOw. Not from experience but a lot of reading.... You already have the crank and rods but I'd re-consider the 408. I seem to read of to many issues with 408's and much less with a 370 for what ever reason. Minimal gains in heads with a FI engine. IE bang for the buck. I wouldn't sweat to much over the heads if budget gets to be an issue. Stock rockers will get the job done and don't know that I've read convincing that any aftermarket units are any better or make more power.

 

Its an assembled short block. What kind of issues do you think would pop up? The only one ive heard of is oil consumption is higher for the 408, but thats usually the end result of not using the right piston skirts.

I dont see how this will be too terribly expensive considering I already have the blower, and most of the stuff from my 5.3 is reusable.

The thought entered my mind to buy a low-mileage 4.8 and strip it for spare parts like covers, rockers, oil pump, pan, etc. I figured that might be cheaper than buying everything separately, then sell the block when im done with it.

 

unless you already know and trust the complete history on the used 408 . . . pass on it!

build yourself a 370
less wear and tear on parts
better gas mileage . . . but who really cares
1500-2K less up front costs !

plan on the 80e swap, with the t-case . . . it's going to happen

 

I already have the 408 shortblock. Straight from the machine shop, never even had heads put on it.

Sweet I'm curious to see this project. It seems like 370s are good motors for boost but I imagine that 408 will be pretty sweet. What kind of power do you think your planned setup is gunna make?

Nice build. I would just think that a TVS 1900 would be too small. I would think a TVS 2300 would fit better. Just my 2 cents

 

oh its definately too small, but the difference is I already have it. I think it will push 5 or 6 pounds at most.
