It's fun stuff. Only took me about 2 hours to get those two little pieces on there. I hammered in the pinch weld at the bottom of the firewall too.

 

Some big updates in this post... Drove the truck yesterday! 6-7-14. So far so good-ish. My oil drain is wet at the fittings near the pan and the feed is dripping a bit at the turbo. Just some small things to work out so far but it was nice to be able to drive it around the block and see the transmission working. The CircleD 3,100 is definitely different than a stock converter.

Down tubes are all welded up.

Got my O2 sensor bungs put in. Originally I planned on wideband up top and narrow on the bottom but when I installed the pipe, my wideband cord didn't reach that far over to the passenger from the driver side. So now it is narrowband closer to the turbo and wideband at the bottom.


Installed heat socks on the spark plugs.


I pounded in the tube a little but I'm thinking I'll probably have to do it more.


Probably my favorite part on the whole truck right now. I love how this turned out.

Energy suspension trans mount.


Vacuum manifold mounted to the side of the fusebox, hobbs wired, all lines ran.




I ran the exhaust as far as I can for now with what pieces I had left. 4" all the way to the side exit. It is LOUD! Like ear crackling loud. I thought it would be much smoother sounding and nice like my friend's rear mounted Dakota with no muffler. Looks like I'm going to need a muffler.

 

nice man, ive been driving around open downpipe all week lol. Only thing i woiuld change is move the wideband closer to the turbo, that is pretty far down, i have mine like 8 or so inches from the turbo. Your readings will be leaner that far down in my experience

 

Awesome update.

For a muffler, I have spent a little time watching youtube, reading and asking around for a decent muffler that is tame and will be sound great with no real drone. I am going with a magnaflow 12219 3in/3out and, that might be a good choice for you aswell.

Interesting about the wideband location. I'm aware that it will ready ever so slightly delayed but I wouldn't really think it will read different. At the velocity the exhaust is traveling, 10-12" 'shouldn't' make a huge difference. I wonder why it would read leaner, maybe a large change in load and the different AFRs will blend together more because of the change in fueling?

I'll be looking for a 4" muffler, I know they're out there, probably less options though not a big deal on that part though.

 

I think the wideband will be just fine. On my grand prix the wideband sensor is about 10-12in past the front o2 and about 15+ inches from where the front and rear exhaust meet together as it's a transverse mounted engine with a single downpipe exhaust.

It's normally spot on from what I see the commanded on my HP Tuners, wb will tend to read slightly rich the longer I'm in the throttle but I have found that the AEM uego sensor is off by .1 to .2 as the sensor gets older.

 

on a few of my cars i noticed about .2 -.3 leaner reading that far down. Not sure why maybe has more time to disipate or something
