I still wouldnt do it. The worst wear I saw was not at the bottom of the stroke. I'm sure they are kind of egg shaped down there... but the cyl wall mid stroke looked horrible.

i say go ahead and post the pics robert...it's good information for the noobs.

for the same reason, i nabbed a lq4 to rebuild as a forged rod/piston 370 as a back up for when my 408 wears out.

My piston skirts were trashed after 13k in my 408.
I put new pistons in but I wouldn't put a 4" stroke in a stock block again.

That is pretty bad. What is the ring around the cylinder from? Did it sit for a prolonged period of time without running? Do you by chance have a pic of the piston coming out of the bottom of the cylinder? I never took pics of my stock stroke setup, just wondering. Also when your block was bored, did they put a chamfer at the bottom of the cylinder?

Golen engine in hudson NH. I had him build my 370 too.

It wasnt my motor new... so I can't say what the ring is from or if it was there new. Notice that the worst wear is not at the bottom of the stroke though. Its about haldway when the rod starts to push the piston INTO the wall with much greater force than a stock stroke bottom end.

You talking about the ring at the top of the cylinder wall? I believe that is just called the carbon ring. Its just from the normal combustion cycle
