hey guys newbi here lol. anyways i have a 2001 silverado z71 extc with a 5.3 i plan on stroking this motor to a 383 and would like to know ur guys thoughts or suggestion so here is wat my "planned set" up is
1, to start off i'm thinking of going with a stroker kit from these guys on ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LS1-C...Q5fAccessories... and from their options at the bottom i'd take kit i
2, i got stock 6.0 heads they probably bump the compression up to around?
3, doug thornly tri-y headers good idea?
4, have not got my cam yet still thinking but my thoughts r on a 226int232exh @.50 and a 112lsa i'm looking for high torque from mid range wats ur thoughts
5, nitrous will be coming later will it work with something like this probably 200-250 shot i got 8.1 litre marine injectors i'd be interested in hearing ur thoughts and ideas thanks guys

the 6.0 heads will lower your compression. according to that link you will have around 10.3 compression. youll also have to bore your block to 3.902, thats .122 over it will cost a fair bit. You could buy a 6.0 block and build a 408 for about the same money.. or you can buy a 6.0, bore it .030 (370ci) and put forged pistons and rods. youd have roughly a $1k less with a 370 over a 383 and 408 as you would not have to buy the crank..just depends on your wallet.

Welcome to the site.
1) Personally I would NEVER buy a kit from ebay, but that's just my opinion. Callies, one of our sponsors has a deal going now I believe.
2) Stock 6L heads will LOWER compression....bad juju.
3) Tri-Y's are decent Mid tubes (?) but a good set of long tubes can't be beat.
4) I think you should hang out a while BEFORE spending any $$$$ if you can resist. The $$$ you save in the end you can share with us later.

why do you want such low compression? the ls6 heads would be a good idea. they are between the 6.0 and 5.3 heads. the ls6 head on a 383 will give you 11:1 comp the 706 head will be around 11.8... I ran 11.8 on my 370 with pump gas

I'm running 706s on my 408, the heads are milled to 59cc and i have 10cc dished pistons i think my final compression is 11.3. Talk to Richard at west coast cylinder heads he'll help you out. And as for the stroker kit look at skoggin dickey parts center, they have really good deals on quality parts. Welcome to the site.

Welcome and I would passed on the stroker option on my 5.3 and opted for a 6.0. Why spend all that $ on a 5.3. I had looked into that option and after receiving a quote from a machine shop for $4500 + teardown+freght + install, I said forget it. It could be better spent with a 6.0 + extras. And it was
