I dont know what is wrong with my truck. its a 02 ecsb with a 5.3 Only mods are a custom made 4in cold air kit. At wide open throttle it will rattle the hell out of the valves no matter what kind of gas I have in it. I just dont understand it. I have runn diff kinds of gas, I have even tried octane boost. nothing works. the other thing i dont get is why is the computer not pulling any timing out when this happens???? I tried running it at a local 1/8th mile track and it only ran a 10.35 with then all of a sudden it ran 10.15@70mph then it went right back to a 10.38 at 68...

Its just wierd that it is doing this... any help ?

 

that one has an easy fix. trurn your stereo up every time before you punch it

ive got a dead lifter that causes about the same thing, only with one, but it is the LOUDEST valvetrain noise i have ever heard. but imho its not worth fixing on the tbi when ive got a 6.0 on the stand so i just crank up the tunes!

 

The noise may go away if you have a custom tune done. If it is a spark knock, a tune will get rid of it.

yeah I though A tune would help.. I am wondering if the cold air is sucking so much air " 4in cold air" that it may be causing some issues.....

 

you might have an leak afte the maf. if you suck in fresh air that isnt calibrated it will caue the motor to ping

 

I get the same thing. Sounds like the motor is filled with marbles at WOT.

 

Try changing fuel filter if you have an 99-03 model.You would be suprised but I have seen 2 trucks ping WOT AND fuel filter cured problem,no more lean condition.

 

My buddies Vette was doing the same thing too. He took it to the dealership and they used "top engine cleaner". They told him it was carbon build up in the engine. Anyway, it went away afterwards. I think they poured it into the spark plug holes (plugs out of course) and let it sit over night.
