Default Quick, Stupid Question

Just a quick question?

When pulling off the rocker arms do I need to keep them organized so they can go back on the valve they came off of? Will be replacing lifters, springs, pushrods and cam with new parts. Motor in question is '05 6.0 from a Suburban with a claimed 84k.

I normally keep them on the rocker stands and put them all right back were they were. Couldn't tell u if it matters or not

On the cathedral port heads it rrally doesnt matter they are all the same, but easiest way is to loosen them all up and pull the stand with rockers all at same time. If youre doing trunnion upgrade, it doesnt matter where they go back together. The reactangular port heads are a different story simply because the intake rockers are offset.

There is really no reason not to, unless you're just doing a "sloppy style" build.

That's the kind of motivation I need! It's aggravated me ever since I swapped this motor in how half-assed it turned out. I'll do better this time.

My thing is if youre using new pushrods, new valves, upgrading trunnions they dont necessarily need to go back in same place.... When i built my l92, i took all the rockers out of the stands removed thebolts and put them in a parts washer, and then soaked them in oil before i put it all back together. I ended up with a set of comp pushrods, and had to have 2 or 3 valves changed out so i personally wasnt worried about them going back in same place persay... However normally for time conservation, and some may say its sloppy, i take the rocker stand and rockers as a unit and set them in the respective valve cover, along with the pushrods. Rarely do they get thrown in the parts washer...unless they are just caked, otherwise i hose them with brake clean and let it eat....
