Default Motor swap Question, Please help!!

My buddy has a 93 chevy 1/2ton truck V6. He can get his hands on a 99 5.7 vortec with computer, wiring harness. Brand new crate motor. Is this a straight forward swap? Is switching the computer over a hassle? What tranny should he use? 700r4, 4L60E? Any links that could help with the swap? Thanks in advance!!

Do they make a 5.7 vortec, or could it be an LS1??

The 5.7 Vortec motor is not based on the LS1. It is the older-style 350 rated at 255HP (I think.) This should be a fairly straight-forward swap in an early 90's 1500.

A buddy of mine here in Jacksonville is building a nasty LS1 to put in his early-90's 1500, and it's not such an easy swap from what he's said. He may even be doing a twin turbo setup to complicate things even more! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Should drop right in. They use the same crossmember on V6's as they do V8's. I would post this in the hybrid section too. They know all about engine swaps.
