I purchased the Pro Flo XT intake, and when I installed it, I just tried to center up the bolts in the bolt holes thinking it would be fine. Well I pulled it the other day to do some work, and couldnt believe how far off the ports were. The line from the port was right next to the gasket.
I had no idea it could be that far off. I decided to set the intake on the engine sliding it back and forth until the left and right ports were pretty much centered. I took a few pics through the plenum with my cell so I could show how close it was, and still off.



Needless to say I will be porting the front side of the runner on the passenger side, and the back of the runner on the drivers side. I just thought I would share this info as I thought it was surprising where my runner actually ended up. If you have one of these intakes you might just want to try the cell phone trick before you tighten the bolts down.

fit and finish is rarely perfect, and intakes seem to cause the most heartache. I think it has the lowest barrier to entry for someone to make one... so people don't spend as much time on them. I would imagine this will leave some room on the table for gains with port matching though. I also look forward to the results.

interesting... i have some little spacer/washer/bushing things i use to make sure the bolts are centered in the holes since the hole is ~8mm and it uses 6mm bolts... but i never thought to check if it was aligneed like that! good thinking

I have decided to just intall it for now and center it up as much as possible. I will mess with it over the winter. I havent drove my truck in a while and I want to have fun with it. The track closes in Oct around here and I would like to make some passes before that. When I took the first pics, the intake was setting on the engine with the gaskets under the intake uncompressed. It appears that exaggerated the problem. When I tightened the bolts down, it looks quite a bit better. Still off but better. It looks like I will need to open up the port of the intake by about 1/8" to get it matched. Here is how it ended up.

Yea that's much better. I'd only touch the heads if you are trying to squeeze every last pony out of that set up.

Yeah, TSP milled them. The bottoms of the runners line up pretty good though.
