I don't have first hand experience saying it will be OK but I wouldn't expect that to harm the signal. The sensor is just looking for the peak and valley...

I was thinking the same thing but I didn't know if it would disturb the signal.

it counts the rotations of the motor i think.

also you are building the motor dont worry with it. swap in a new 24x reluctor wheel and swap your timing gear, cam sensor, crank sensor over bam your done!

It goes along with the crank position sensor to let the computer know where the crank is to know when to fire the coils. I think.

Need some better pictures and what exactly are you looking at. Any damage to the reluctor on the crank will cause problems. The PCM references the crank and cam signals for correct spark and fuel timing. I have seen the reluctor on the crank come loose and spin causing all kinds of havoc.

How did this happen? It looks like you could get a signal out of it. I would try to put a little bead of weld on it, and grind it back to shape.

its a L76 therefore its a 58x. he's got a 24x so just swap the reluctor wheel to a 24x and forget about it simple fix, dont worry with it.

The PCM also uses the crank sensor signal to help determine misfires. It looks at crankshaft speed, and if it sees the crank slow down when a certain cylinder is firing it will trip a misfire code.
