Need help working out a Parts combo for a 5.3
#1
Hello, I'm new here, Not new to Engine building but i am green to LS series engines, i have a 2006 Silvy Z-71 4x4 5.3 that i want to up the Power Quite a Bit in, this is the Combo i have come up with and my goal is to run mid 13's to low 14's and still be my DD, I want to know what do you think it will make and is there something i'm missing or need to add? I appreciate your help
TFS 205cnc 5.3 heads OR PRC 2.5 220cc heads from Texas Speed
Custom cam 212-212 .600lift with 1.82 rockers 112lsa
.080 wall 3/8 push rods and Comp Pro Mag 1.82 rockers
Patriot LT headers,Y pipe and Magnaflow Cat Back-No cats
Ported Truck Intake, TFS Cold air Kit
MAS??? what to do? If i win the Lotto i'll use a FAST LSXRT Intake and GTO 90mm TB but thats unlikely
Factory 78mm TB? what to do here?
Fully Custom Dyno Tune by Wong's Performance
I don't want to put in a Converter yet as i'm sure they are 1000$ and i do have a budget, well am i on the right track?
Should i just buy a 408 shortblock and leave the 5.3 alone and upgrade the 408 as i go? Thanks

This is the route i'm currently on:
TR220 114LSA
Yank TT3000
Pac 1218s
Pacesetter LTs and ORY
4.30 gears and a Tru-Trac
....and a 75shot for a little more fun
All of this should have my ECSB in the 13s, and still be able to pull just about anything I could put behind it.
With the small cam you have in mind, I wouldn't bother with heads. I would use coin that for a converter.

All that stuff you listed will get you well beyond the 13's You can get into the low 14's with a good tune, headers, all the bolts on..
Is your truck a reg cab short bed???

I gotcha, What all bolt ons are your speaking of? , Yes my truck is a Short bed regular cab, Well if i could do better than 13's that's great i just figured i'd need more But these little Motors do suprisingly well even stock, I figure with getting the compression up over 10-1 with a milled head swap and .041 HG's i could run a little bigger cam and still not have be too radical for a DD, how does that 220-220 do in a 5.3 with a stock vert?

Interesting cam specs...I'm not sure, but .600 lift and 1.8 rockers on milled heads may or may not create PTV clearance issues
When you referred to "MAS", did you mean "MAF" (mass air flow sensor)? If so, don't do anything to the MAF, keep the stocker unless you go with a speed density tune. You can keep the stock truck intake and throttle body with the head and cam combo that you listed and save some money there. If you decide to go for the 408, plan on swapping out your 4L60E trans for a stout 80E, as a 408 will eat the 60E for lunch

yeah its just about .550+ lift with 1.7's and with 1.82's its close to .600, That can change as i see Yank has a Nice 3000 vert that is Decently Priced that i can afford so i see a Lot of you guys like this 220-220 114lsa cam, Who makes that?, Thanks for the info on the intake and on the 408 eating the 60E, My Paps is a Master Tech and Tranny Guy so i'm sure one way or the other i'll keep him busy LOL

Both Thunder Racing and Texas Speed make proven 220 cams, the TR has about .551 lift, and I think that the TSP cam has around .581 lift. Thunder uses their own proprietary lobes (which I think are ground by Comp, but I'm not 100% sure), and the TSP uses Comp lobes (maybe XER? can't remember at the moment). Personally, I'd recommend the TR220....bluecajun used that cam to take his 5.3 rcsb into the 12's without any head work
Most guys use the stock rocker arms with these cams also btw...

The TR cam has a less aggressive, while texas speed uses XER lobes on alot of there grinds... The one you want to run is up to you.. Like Billy said they are both proven cams, for the most part is why a ton of people have them in there trucks... However it will like a lil bit of a converter, but if you got one on a 114lsa, you might be ok running it.. First thing I would look into is getting a shift kit-servo-trans cooler
Also keep the stock ratio rockers IMO

do a tr220 112, pac 918's, comp push rods, wcch stage 1 5.3 heads(have to call them, not on the website). pacesetter or better longtubes and ory or catted y. 4.10's, truetrac, transgo, corvette and sonnex servos, trucool trans cooler, and a circle d with about 3000-3200 stall but the larger one you can tow with. stock rockers, stock intake, airraid jr intake tube with a drop it k&n filter. no maf upgrades, no throttle body p&p, no freakin tb spacers ect. that would be a solid mid to high 13 truck if not 12's with a bigger 9.5" verter. then spay it
