Default Need buildup advice for FI motor.

I've come to the conclusion that the stock 6.0L isn't gonna take the 15lbs of boost i'm pushing at it for very long. AND, I want more power. I'm definately on a budget so The idea of just purchasing a 402 or 408 is kinda far fetched. I know I need a cam, but what else? It has been suggested to me that I need to upgrade my pistons, crankshaft, rods(?), maybe heads.

I found a complete 402 built for FI applications for sale for $8500. I was hoping to get away with only spending $3K or so.

Thanks in advance.

6.0 bored .030 over, forged rods and pistons will do the trick.

If you want to keep it cheap:

1)keep your 6L heads and maybe have a performance valve job done on them.

2)Stock crank will work fine. 6 main bolts does wonders for bottom end strength.

3)Rods seems to be a personal preference. Eagle would do just fine, but some want more expensive stuff: e.g. Oliver, Lunati, Manley, etc.

4)For pistons I'd shoot for someting in the 9:1 range. There are many companies out there that could do this for you. Diamond, JE, Mahle just to name a few.

That should get you started.

Maybe even talk with a reputable sponsor(W2W, Futral, Thunder, Texas Speed ...) about your goals and see what they have in mind.

I'm going to call Dez Racing today because they are sorta local. There is a very local engine rebuilder that said he could port and polish my stock heads for cheap and guarantees his work. The only down side is he won't remove or install the engine. He wants me to buy a 6.0L longblock and let him build it. He also doesn't do any tuning, so, Dez is gonna be my best bet even though they are 2hrs away, ugh.

You can buy a set of comp star rods for $440 thats what I used in my motor and I think there rated at 900+hp. If your going to kept the whipple for FI I would keep the compression around 9.1 and if you get your block bored/honed make sure!!! they use torque plates. That should work pretty good for you and would say you would be able to do all that for around $2000 depending on what all you get. Good luck

Ok, so the concensus is that I can use my stock block and stock crankshaft? So, that means I should get a new cam, new pistons, new rods, and have my heads ported and polished.

I would reccomend a good valve job on the heads but dont waste money on a port and polish job.

Ok, so would buying stage whatever heads be a bad idea? Would it be way cheaper to just have a "valve job"?
