Default how far to bore?

On a 5.3, can you take it to a 4.030 bore? Not sure if .052 would be too safe to take off.

Actually even though that's very close, you're still a little bit off!! The 4.8/5.3 block can be bored safely to 3.903 to obtain a 383/6.2 with a 4" crank!!!

I was just giving the specs on making the 5.3 into 5.7....I thought that was all you could take the 4.8/5.3...

370 cubes is all i want out of it. I have a 6.0 block bored out in the truck in the sig, but i have another 2003 gmc with a 5.3 thats my daily driver and needs some more motor, but didnt want to get too expensive with it.

What rods do you need to work with the 4" stroke?

Whta hp gains can be expected with a 383 build with 243 workd heads and a Z06 cam.I have thought about this myself.

Depends on the tune, compression ratio, flow numbers on heads, any mods done (ie: exhaust, tb, etc...), and the drivetrain!! But really anywhere from 360+hp to about 460ish with that cam!! Bone stock mods, all motor with Z06 cam, with about 9.5:1 comp ratio should have you a little over 400hp out the motor....not wheel hp!!!
