I have an 08 crew cab with the 5.3 BTR truck 2 cam, MIT intake tube, Texas speed Longtubes, 3” exhaust with a huge magnaflow, stock stall and 3.73 gears, I’m waiting to do a 4l80 then a bigger stall. The truck doesn’t start to pull until 2600, so I’d be careful about a bigger cam without a higher stall. I average about 17 with city/ highway driving.

OP, we like the stage 2 truck cam SUM-8701 you mentioned. With specs of .523/.524, 218/227, 112+2 we think it's a little on the big side for your truck and goals. The general consensus says 3.73 gears and long tubes would be a good place to start. We completely agree with this for your truck.

We agree with RedXray. The stage 1 high-lift SUM-8719 would be better suited in your case. Specs on it are .550/.550, 209/217, 112+1 with -10* of overlap. This cam will be great for driveability and efficiency. It will pair well with your current mods but even better with 3.73 gears, long tubes, and a tune. When tuning you can have a smooth idle or noticeable lope depending on idle speed. It will have good off-idle torque with a strong mid-range and top-end.

As RedXray mentioned budget-friendly LS6 NAL-12499224 springs will pair nicely with this cam. With the LS6 springs, this will pull strong past 6500 rpm. Although bigger than the stock cam it can actually increase fuel efficiency. The extra torque keeps the engine from downshifting up grades. ½ the rpm uses ½ the fuel. That is if you can keep your foot out of it.

A 2500+ rpm converter is a plus but not at all required.

Something to help with the install. We have a cam swap install kit. That is part number CMB-09-0029. This includes the timing cover gasket, water pump gaskets, oil pump o-rings, LS2 timing chain, valve cover gaskets, and harmonic balancer bolt.

We have the 8719 in a cam kit if you like things all-inclusive. That would be SUM-8719-2-BHV. This would include the cam, springs, and above mentioned install kit.
