Default best off the shelf performing cam

im building a lsx mustang. no choice on motor yet. just ordered kmember and motor mounts. i really dont have a preference on what motor just whatever i find the best deal on first really. Im wonderng what the best performing cam is in a 4.8, 5.3 , 6.0? car already has 4.10 gears and refuse to use anything less than a 4l80e.

there is no answer to this question. it all depends on your setup (that you dont have yet)

+1, it totally depends on your setup and goals, how high you plan to rev it, intended use for the vehicle, etc. If you search some threads here, you'll find, that historically, mild daily driven 5.3 trucks do really well with the Comp 212/218, and the TR220 has proven itself in trucks with a 3200 converter, 4.10 gears, and a 29" or shorter tires, while the TR224 or TSP224r has proven itself a good daily performer in 6.0 trucks with about the same drivetrain setup as a TR220 in a 5.3. Now if you factor in headwork and a few other things, you'll want more cam than what I posted above, which is basically what has proven itself with stock heads.

Since you're building a light car, you can go with more cam than what works well in trucks though, and less gear and converter. Figure out what what size engine you're going with, what gears and converter (if using an automatic trans), and how tall a tire that you're using and get back to us and I'm sure that you'll get a plethora of different suggestions Or, if you want to put the mill together first, we can then figure out what driveline configuration will work best for you

well being is that im in a hurry to get it drivable it will most likely be a 4.8 or 5.3. the car already has 4.10 gears and im planning on 3600 stall in a 80e. It will also have a decent bit of juice on it 150 atleast. id really prefer the 5.3 but if i find a good deal on a 4.8 quick thats what it will get. 224 cam 3600 stall 4.10s n 150 shot should b pretty damn quick in a 3300-3400 lb car

<<<<< T-Rex... Tiny little arms but that SOB has teeth

I'd probably put something like a TSP228r or Something around that. The 224 mentioned would work but in such a light car with that gear you could easily run something in the low 230's
