Mains were set to 0.0027, and rods were 0.0025. Used 10w30 and 20w50 brad penn oil.

Yea, let me pull my lathe out of my pantry and slap the crank on it

Use your imagination Mr.Engineer, you dont necessarily have to have a lathe to rotate a cylindrical object on a continuous axis.

I wonder if your caps are walking. When your 408 chewed up the bearing it was the thrust bearing that looks like it went first. I am debating pinning mine, and there are a couple methods for this. There are pins that go around the bolts like a rod bolt, or you can have a pin placed directly between the bolts. You are making so much HP I would be surprised if it was flexing.

It's hard to tell from the pics on my cell phone, but this time you tore down the engine the thrust looks almost like it had wear on the back of the bearing in the block, and the front of the bearing in the cap like it wasn't sitting in there square anymore after that much power.

Whats next?? Do you know of anyone semi-local that you would trust to do your machine work? Reason I ask is because dad is building a 408 for a 66 chevyII and is searching for a reputable machinist. You have had some shitty luck when it comes to engines, wishing you better luck on your next build.

Not really, which is really annoying. There are some good shops in the huntsville and bham areas, but from what Ive heard they just take forever.

Checked runout this morning...

Main1: 0.001
Main2: 0.005
Main3: 0.004
Main4: 0.001
Main5: 0.001

I thought the factory spec for runout was in the 0.007 range...

Here is a video of number 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wQgHBffp18

Edit: Everything Ive found says max runout for main journal is actually 0.0003"

.005 of runout is about .004 more than I would feel comfortable with .

Are you sure it's .007 and not .0007?
