I'd rather have an iron block in a truck anyways. $550 for the block prep and bore over, $350 for the pistons and $250 for a balanced rotating assembly. When you think about it I spent $244 on the entire complete 5.3L out of the donor truck and another $550 on the block which includes cleaning, boring over, decking and truing up the block to the crank centerline, new cam bearings and all new main and rod bearings. Not bad for $550 to get a perfect foundation to build on with an iron block 5.7L.

One thing to keep in mind with the 5.7L build that I've recently come across, is that your cylinder walls will now obviously be thinner therefore dumping more heat into the cooling system. Make sure your cooling system is back up to par because now you'll have to cool a motor that puts about 10-15 degrees more into the radiator.
