Default 6.2 6spd 342 vs 6.2 8spd 323

what do you guys think the actual impact will be of the 8spd and 323s vs the 6spd and 342s? i have a 14 6.2 6spd 342 4x4 and i am considering ordering a 15 exactly how i want. which will be faster, mpg, better driving, etc? i'd love to see a video of these two up against each other, in mexico on a closed course obviously.

I would think better gas mileage and better performance at least in some areas. I was going to wait on a '15 or at least until the 8 spd. was available on a RCSB but I looked at the specs on GMC and Chevys website comparing the 14 vs. 15 and the 15 was about 125 lbs. heavier as I recall apples to apples. That plus all the discounts made my decision to go ahead and do it now.

125 can't be all Trans weight, right? What else have they changed?

I don't see any way it could be trans weight. I just figured it would be more safety regulation bs. I honestly couldn't determine that the 15's had anything that the 14's didn't except more time to work out the kinks on a new model. So far so good on mine. Extremely happy.

Oh me too. I've been very lucky. Mine was a late build. Rides very smooth. No vibrations at all. No electrical/recall issues. Just 12,000 trouble free miles. Just want a crew cab and not black!

I work at one of the GM parts suppliers, we build body parts for the trucks and the SUV's.

From the changes I've seen, some of the weight gains are from GM switching
to steel components from aluminum to save on material costs.
We've had to re-tool and change our manufacturing machines accordingly.

With the new Gen V engine being more efficient and having more power, GM is able to "save cost" on body parts and still get the economy rating from the previous year.
