How much better is the 14-15 6.2 vs the old one
I just became a new dad and I was wondering is the 14-15 6.2 faster than my 2008 denali with Lt headers and a custom tune. I would really like to get the bigger back seat in 2014 for a rear facing car seat.

The perfect truck would be an early 2014 6.2 with nht package and a 6 speed before they changed to the 8 speed.
My 2010 6.2 nht would kill my new 2015 6.2 8 speed.
The 8 speed is made for mpg, not get up and go.

For cost reasons I would rather have a 2014. I thought the new 8 speed would have been faster. Good to know

[QUOTE=Choda;5313100]so getting a new 6.2 with the 6 speed would be the better choice? As in the 2014 model?
are there any real stats from the 6 vs 8 speed in the same trucks. head to head type of racing and comparison?[/QUOTE
given the same engine power a 6 speed with 3'73's and a 6.2 will outrun an 8 speed with 3.23 all day long.
There is no tuning yet for the 8 speed and you can't really tune around the 3.23's and the tranny ratios anyway, you could make it shift better, that's about it.
Like I said, my tuned 2010 would leave my new truck for dead.

honestly not too impressed with the new 6.2. My buddies 09 Denali suv tune only beats my buddies tune only 2014 6.2 6 speed Denali crew cab. Not sure of the weight of the new trucks but I couldn't believe it when I saw it. Did several runs, the truck gets the suv out the hole by a hair then for some crazy reason the suv pulls it up top. Really was hoping for better results out of the new 6.2 really. Just recently put headers on the truck and seem to help but not as much as you would think. Really disappointed. And did make sure it was a 6.2 not a 5.3 since the new denials have both options lol.

I had a 2010 and now a 2014. Both had the max trailer. I really like 373's. My 14 has a little more power stock than the 2010. I had LT's on the 2010 and that helped a lot. I have shorties on my 14 and there is a little improvement, but not like the LT's. I just installed 150 shot of NOS. I predict it will take out the transmission if i dont go easy on it. Lost the transmission on the 2010.

But as a daily driver, the tranny and gear ratios make it feel lazy and unresponsive to throttle input.
It is never in the right gear or rpm range to get up and go like a 6 speed would, as a d/d.
That is my experience, others may vary.
I haven't tuned mine yet, but as I said above, you can't tune out the number of gears and final drive ratio, it is what it is.
To my mind, having had numerous tuned trucks, having the tranny do what it should when you want it to
is just as important as making more power.
It's not like I don't like the my truck, just that the same engine with a 6 speed and 3.73's and a good tune would rip a whole lot better.
