Default Volant cai + custom ram intake **pics**

I just finished a custom ram air intake for my 2007 GMT900. It is a 1500 with a 5.3. I already had the Volant CAI and started looking at it and what was behind the grille. There is a large opening in the air box facing forward. The factory puts a piece of plastic on the radiator core support to direct air into the radiator. This plastic piece blocks flow into the air box. With this piece removed there is a direct shot into the air box from the front grille. And with the fabricated scoop I it forces air directly into the filter.
PM me for any additional info.

That's a really good idea and I'm interested in using it on mine. Was the plastic cone one off or are you going to sell some?

The scoop is sheet metal not plastic. I designed it using Solid Works software. It is then cut, bent, welded and painted. The paint has a textured finish.

so what is your plan for rain? once that filter soaks with water the motor will choke on itself.

I was thinking the same thing..

Looks nice .. Curious if it will gain any over no hole.. From what I know the true ram air affect doesn't start working untill 100ish..

All you would need for the rain concern is a K&N Outerwear pre-filter.

I think it's a pretty good idea, esp if you pull the headlight at the track.
