Default Remote Start...What is the deal here?

OK, 08 RCSB 5.3. Truck has electric windows and door locks on current key fob. I am wanting remote start upgrade. I have seen quotes from as high as $600 to as low as $200. What is the real answer and what is the deal with the AU0 code? Truck has 5.3 DOD motor, 4l60E?, OnStar, XM, cheap gauges, no rear defroster. Am I missing anything esle? What remote start kit P/N do I actually need? Thanks.

$200 sounds about right for the basic key fob, if you have the AU0 code which just means that the truck has remote start capabilities already installed. It's not something you can just go buy yourself and have it work. IMO the expense for what is done is a joke but there is no way around it that I know of. All you are paying for is a new set of key fobs and to have the dealership do some special programing in which they have to get special authorization from GM and that can be time consuming. So as I understand it you end up paying $200+ for about $20 worth or key fobs and the rest goes to time it takes in dealing with GM and uploading the programing to make it work. There may also be a more advanced 2-way keyfob available what will cost more, but I never did see if those actually made it to real production.

Can you just by-pass the factory option and use an aftermarket like you have Ryan?

you can have all of them reprogrammed it think.... if you hit the key switch fast, you can let go and the truck will start by itself. all computer controlled

yes you can install an aftermarket one but the OEM will probably come out cheaper. you can do that or pay 400-800 for a viper...

So how many of these trucks are capable of this? I have a WT, no power anything.. It too does the one touch start, do you think it has the capability to do this? Also do all these trucks have some of the wiring for the power windows and locks? Like wiring that stops at the kick panel so that you can find power window doors and just rob it from them?

I bought this truck while in college for the cheapness and now that i have a little more money i would like to start upgrading it to have power stuff.. I have the aftermarket power window kit but would rather use factory stuff if possible..

Thanks
