I took the truck to the dealer thursday and was told today they are replacing my 3rd member. What the hell is a 3rd member

 

i thought only ford 9inches or toyotas have them ???? the pinon and ring gear with carrier all come out in one unit . its in the rear diff .

 

isnt the 3rd member the pumpkin? The whole housing that has the gears, locker, ring gear, etc...

 

Maybe is was covered under warranty. It was howling pretty good with 20k oon it

 

Good thing you have a good dealer where you live. Here if you had ANY performance mods they'd said that's what caused the problem. Then they'd say sorry you voided the warranty.

 

Ya, the 9" most frequently has that term applied to it. IIRC, the Mopar 8 3/4 has that too. It could only be certain yrs. tho.

Correct. Actually both of these guys replies. Rear diff = 3rd member = pumpkin. All the same.
