I need to be faster
#1
So we were coming home from dinner tonight and my buddy and I started to play a little. We did a couple stoplight digs and one 20+mph roll. We never exceeded 60mph. First dig I had to slow for some idiot. Win=him. Second dig we ran out of road. I was ahead, but no clear win. From a roll, I dropped to manual and like a dumbass I bounced off the limiter and it fell on its face. Win=him (by default I guess).
My truck is bone stock, except for rear block removal. And tint and de-badge. But that don't make you faster.
His is a 2010 Ram 3500 4wd on a 4.5 Tuff country lift on 35x12.5/18 nitro trail graps. 6.7L cummins with EGR block off plates, full 5" TBE, H&S mini maxx, AFE intake, south bend big single clutch.
Needless to say, I need a tune, intake, long tubes and a cat back. Stock sucks. I don't want to lose to him. I'll never hear the end of it.

tune and stall and/or gears depending on how you used the truck should put a huge grin on your face. If i had 2 go back and do it again those would be the first 2 imo. once you pop, the fun dont stop tho lol.

Tune by Black bear is on my list. I was trying to decide between getting just the auto cal for myself, or getting the full on V2 w/ gas and diesel. I have a bunch of other buddies that could benefit from the beauties of EFI live.
02 Duramax, 10 6.7L cummins, 07 5.9 cummins, 08 Vortec Max, and me. My thoughts were if we got the full boogie setup, we could all shoulder the burden of the extra cost together. Then everyone has a better running vehicle. But I don't want to be left holding the bag when/if the others back out. That's why the auto cal is more enticing.

Word of advice: Don't even consider going all-out and getting tuning software for you and all of your buddies, until you do some serious reading up and tuning on your own truck. I don't know how familiar you are with HPT or EFILive, but if you are familiar with them, then you know you don't just jump into it neck deep. And for the initial question, it's all about what you want to spend and what you're looking for out of the truck. Price usually limits everyone and everything.

I know about the voodoo of tuning. We would use Starlite Diesel for the coal burners. And use Black Bear for the gassers. None of us want to be tuners. No delusions there, we would be in way over our heads. A smart man knows when to have a pro take the reins.
