Budget heads n cam

Default Budget heads n cam

Has any one used the ls9 heads on a 5.3 haven't done all the homework on em but thinkin of doin a budget cam install and then of course everyone says "while your in there" put heads!!!!
Just tossing the idea around on using ls9 cam 130$ n porting some ls9 heads or 243s if find good deal
Just lookin for opinions on these
And or experiences

2011 5.3 afm vvt bb tune pacesetters slp lm2 n volant next week 4.10s......... Hopefully

LS9 heads wont fit anything with less than a 4" bore. If you had a 6.0 you could use them but iirc the regular LS3/L92 heads will actually out flow the LS9s.

As for the LS9 cam, its really designed around the L92/LS3/LS9 port design and wouldn't be the best choice for a 5.3.

Your 2011 already has 243 or 799 heads so pick out a good cam kit with good springs and stronger pushrods, find a stall to match the cam and get some headers.

Those and alot others won't fit. You have any more advice on a cam
Lookin toward comps vvts
But tryin to do a tight budget this isn't my racecar : )

Would it be worth porting my 799s and also getting a spec cam from one of these pros out there

That depends on your definition of a "tight budget". For a daily driver, probably not. As for the VVT, I'm not a big fan so mine is going away, but it has advantages.

My 5.3 didn't have VVT. Mine only had DOD. Go with a 224/228 and a 3600 stall.
