6.2 Get 3.42 or 3.73 gear
#1
Ok guys
I'm ordering a new 6.2 silverado
normally I would get the 3.42 with an old a4 tranny.
Now that we have a a6 would 3.73 be better choice. Why?
As I pull a boat alot and old a4 I would run in 3rd gear"drive"
so 3.42 would b good. Well now I would run in 5th Would 3.42 still be fine
Does anyone know if the 3.42 get better milage
I really Want the 3.42. Just wanting opions
I'm also getting the 20in wheels

the only reason i ordered my 6.2 with the NHT max package and 3.73 gears is that you get a bigger rear axle with disc brakes. well worth the couple hundred bucks.
Id rather have 3.42s but the 9.5" axle with disc brakes is better than the crappy 10 bolt rear

If I could have went with 3.73 I would have but mine came with 3.42's. IMO it's kind of a dog out of the hole with 3.42's. I tow a good bit so I'm looking into getting 4.10 for my ride, plus it should rip from a dig with them. I think the 3.42's and 3.73's will get about the same MPG with the 6 speed. That's just my 2 cents on the subject..
