Default 4.8 4l60e to 6.0 4l90e scsb.

Oops...I meant "4.8 4l60e to 6.0 6l90e".

My daily driver is a 2008 single cab. Runs tip top but its stock, and lacking in the performance category.

I have a wrecked 2009 2500hd extended cab. Has 130k miles and runs great. It's too far gone for me to want to fix it so I've been parting it out.

So the plan is to swap the engine set into my single cab, do full exhaust, and then later maybe add a cam and tune.

Since I'll need to get a driveshaft made either way, I need to figure out what rear end I'm going to use. I want something beefy, but trying to be budget minded also.

Any ideas, tips, or suggestions?

The 2500 in that year actually has a 6L90e and not a 4L80e. Not sure if you were going to purchase a 4L80e separate.

Your 10 bolt is very strong, it's just the factory diff inside that is not. The stock G80 likes to grenade with lots of power and abuse. Upgrade that to a real locker/posi style unit and call it good. Change your rear end gear ratio if you want while your at it.

You're totally right. I meant 6l90e.

I didn't know a 10 bolt was strong. I'm wondering if its be better to run the rear end from the 2500hd, and get axles made with hubs for the 6 lug pattern? Or use a different rear end all together?

The majority of people out there still run the 10 bolt even at 500-700hp but just with an upgraded locker and driveshaft.

The 14 bolt is just so damn heavy and often not required for many reasons. Another option is a 12 bolt rear from some of the more performance based half tons, not sure where you'd find one though.

I see. I'll look into a differential and 4.11 gear set in that case. I have a 9" ford with a Currie center section in my nova, but I dont wanna want to spend that kind of bread on this truck. I wont be dragged racing on slicks in this thing.

If you’d rather not spend the bread why not do a 4l80 swap and forced induction? You can make a lot of power out of gen 5 engines. You’re going to need an upgraded fuel system either way.
Then sell the 2500’s drive terrain to get some money back.
Less time, less compatibly hurdles, and quicker room for growth later down the road when the 6.0 starts feeling slow.
Just my opinion.

Or keep it real simple and do the 6.0 swap, only. If the trans craps out just build it and skip the 80/90e. A mild 4l65 will hold a stock 6.0’s power.
