what size rear end does open differentials come in?

Open diff's come in several sizes, 7.5, 8.5 and so on. I'm not sure what your asking.

I think the '99 and newer 1500 is 8.6".

99-07? is 8.5 08+ is 8.6 IIRC

Open differential just means it doesn't have a locker so that can be any rearend made.

I looked on Randy's Ring and Pinion and it is a GM 8.6 but has a 10 bolt cover with a 8.5 ring gear. The older diff is a GM 8.5. I am not sure what the difference is but that is the source of my confusion...LOL

Already answered that one. OPEN differential just means it doesn't have a locker and has Spider gears instead.
