So, anybody try this yet??? Acetone is cheap as hell, if it works why not??
I too have used acetone for cleaning motorcycle carbs to try and remove varnish and it did nothing to any of the rubber diaphrams or o-rings.
Who is going to be the guinea pig??

i'm leary about adding stuff to my fuel tank let alone acetone. i have some in my garage. i have a whole gallon of it. if i tested anything it would be the cheapest motor i could find, my neighbors car perhaps.

I'm going to run it in the Suburban and see what happens... but first im going to probably run some Lucas injector cleaner and clean out the injectors and THAN do the Acetone... So, i'll let ya know... i'll make an acetone follow up and post gas mileage before acetone, after acetone, and than while using the Lucas stuff.

If there is a diff. I would recommned using it on long trips may... rather than day to day... Is there a way to calculate Octane levels? Or is that actual lab work?

I'm no chemist, but I would imagine to accuratley get the octane, you would need to perform some tests. Just by going the math route and what I got out of Chem103:

There's 128oz in 1 US gal. If you add 2oz per 10gal, and you put it 20gal total in your tank. You have 0.03125gal of acetone and 19.96875gal of gas. That's 0.15625% acetone and 99.84375% gas. Assuming acetone's octane rating is about 150 and you have 91 octane gas.

150(0.0015625)+91(.9984375)=91.1 octane That's comparable to most octane boosters.

Don't knock my sig figs, its late in the day I don't want to properly round off.

I was driving back from College Station, TX to Tomball, Tx (61.9 miles on the dashboard trip meter). I topped my tank off in College Station immediately after i put 6 oz's or Acetone in my tank(acetone in first, figured it would better mix). When I got to Tomball I topped it off again. It only took 2.566 gallons. Thats 24.123 miles/gallon by my calculation. The best I had gotten previously was mid 19. My truck is completely stock 04 ecsb, 30,xxx miles, 5.3l, 3.42 rear, stock tires, everything stock. Tailgate was up, drove like a granny 55-70 mph with cruise on.

Now I'm sure it works, the question is, will it destroy the engine or parts? I don't see it doing that. I do know our 02 suburban with the 5.3 had a flex fuel engine that you can run the alcohol-gasoline blends in. From what I read, alcohol is worse for the the rubber parts than the acetone. But I'd like to see some other people's results.

I think 2oz in a tank of gas won't do squat. I'm thinking (and believe I've read somewhere) that it's more like a gallon or two in 10-12 gallons of gasoline. And I think I'd use xylene rather than acetone.

I'm telling you, I just tried it. I was a skeptic, but you can't argue with results
