I first read this post a few weeks ago. I figured what the heck, I'll try it in my work beater (97 Nissan Sentra) The first 2 tanks it got about 2 MPG better than it usually does. Then I went on vacation and haven't driven it since. However I started using it in the wifes car and it picked her up about 3 MPG. (04 Mazda 6) We drove that car on a 1100 mile round trip and just got back yesterday and it averaged 4 MPG better on the highway than it ever has. I am going to have her burn out the gas that has acetone in it then fill it up with plain 'ol gasoline and see if the MPG drops back off.

I go back to work Monday so I can resume the testing on the Nissan, but so far it seems to be working for me.

FYI, I am trying to keep the ratio at 2oz/10 gal

I think I'm done with the acetone for now. I got 17.5 out of my last tankfull, good mileage but I drove like a wimp because my license is suspended and I'm on an occupational.
I'm doing a regular 93 octane with no additives to see if my mileage falls off again. To be honest I think the acetone helps but also the warmer weather may be helping too. We'll see after this tankfull.

Yeah about the same here. It seems like it does help some but I ran it on 3 tanks and I didn't see anything more than a 4% increase at best. And it's quite possible that there were other factors contributing to that. It's just not worth it to me considering the possible long term issues, however unlikely, not to mention distributing and transporting this nasty stuff.

Well i'm not sure if anyone has been using Toulene, but I think tomorrow i'm going to give it a shot, should see how well it works on friday. I typically tow a 6500lbs. car trailer to the track every friday, exactly same route there and back, I typically use 1/4 tank of gas there and back. I plan on starting small running only a 10-20% mix of Toulene, so depending on price I might dump in 3 gallons (2.6=10%) or 5 gallons (5.2=20%).

Exactly, I remember years ago a good friend of my father used to use this stuff in everything, especially the race engines he built for a local 20 year champion hill-climber, he ran something like 80% mixtures in the car. Thats when I first heard about it but never thought about using it in a street car. The actually nickname "Rocket Fuel" came from back in the 70's when F1 was using Toulene in very high concentrations and those engines were making like 1000hp.

I've been running it in my truck for about 4 months now. Seem to get abot 1.5-2 Mpg better and have had no bad side affects.

Both of these challenges can be overcome, but a stock system not designed for acetone may run into trouble.
So a Z flex fuel Tahoe, designed to run on gas OR 80% methanol, should be able to run a little acetone in the tank?
