Due to my condition, i haven't been able to look under the shroud to see clearance but, is there not a way to take off the clutch fan, put a smaller shaft and Flex fan on and still run e-fans?
This way you get the benefit of E-fans at idle, and the benefit of clutch fan at speed.

It doesnt seem like there would be enough room to do so, and then shrouding both sets would become an issue.

Anyway, I purchased a set of e-fans from a member here and should get them soon.
I'll be towing again on tuesday and this time i'll take my laptop and log it (forgot it on friday AND saturday). I'll install the fans asap so I can get a log and compare the two. I'm going to attempt to set them up like the 03+'s w/ the two pins. Any advice?

P.S.: The laptop will be in my boat, so dont bother trying to get into the truck to get it (+trainhorns )

Here's what I did.....and going strong for a while now. Have towed my 4000lb trailer and my 3500lb boat in 90 degreee weather and 90% humidity (Its Nebraska.....) with no problems. Yeah, I havent pulled a 10 mile hill, but the 2 mile one I hit it's just fine. I THINK my needle starts to creep up a bit by the top, but on my way down it just chills......I'm pretty sure that the fans still hadnt kicked on yet, and they would have done the job fine on coolong if it was thinking about getting hot. Any ?'s feel free to PM or post up here.

Just to give you guys an idea of how good the clutch fan and shroud is. I moved back to CA after finishing college in AZ this past saturday. I had my truck on the bumpstops in the back, while towing a 17' ski boat packed with stuff too. I was towing through the middle of the day on Highway 40 in about 95* heat. The needle stayed right at 195 the whole time, even on the climb out of needles towards CA. The truck was in second gear, screaming its' little 4.8L guts out.

28" radiator and the clutch fan.

My 05 and my 07 both have e-fans stock, so I would think, they should be okay for pulling and other issues as well. I know the 05 fans really didn't run that much most of the time. Even in really hot weather, they would only be on a little bit. Now the 07 fans run a lot of the time. Infact, everytime I come to a stop they come on. NOt sure what the difference is, but they run a lot more and faster than the 05's. I would think that if they are coming out factory, then they should be good for other trucks as well. Be sure your thermostat is not hanging up or something like that.

Glad I found this thread. I'l like to step up to e-fans. Not expecting huge gas meileage gains, I'd just like to shed some of the seemingly continous drag of the clutch fan. I don't tow per se, save for the time I moved from Illinois to here in NM- I'll dig up a pic of that. The most the truck would see on any reuglar basis in a couple 600lb quads for some 70miles. I guess the real question to justify the trouble- do ya really get any additional snap or bark from the engine from doing away with the clutch fan unit...............
Thanks.....

get a some smaller fans and put them on the front of the rad and just wire them backwards so they are pushing the air through the rad instead of pulling away from it
