Default Towing w/ e-fans

Is it bad? I read a post where someone said that it was a while back and wanted to know if it's true or not. I tow 3500lbs worth of boat/trailer ~35 miles each way 2-3 times a week in vegas. Should refrain from switching to e-fans and stick w/ my mech. fan?

E Fans are better for towing, While going slow they will move more air than the clutch fan. and at speed you don't need a fan anyway. Sitting in traffic they'll cool better, and they'll keep your A/C cooler also.

Ya I noticed my temp guage reads slightly lower since I put the E-Fans in.

AC is about the same (that's when the ac fan actually turns on, 70% of the time it does)

I've been having overheating problems when towing ever since I swapped to e-fans. I'm going to be going back to a clutch fan here shortly to see if that cures the problem. I never had any issues at all with my stock 27" radiator and clutch fan when I had the Radix/5.3 setup. As soon as I swapped to a 34" radiator with e-fans I started having problems. It was an aftermarket 34" radiator that I later found out was about 2/10" thinner than the OEM radiator. I swapped to an OEM 34" radiator with e-fans thinking that would solve the problem and it didn't. I also tried a clutch fan with the aftermarket radiator, no change. I'm hoping that a clutch fan with the OEM radiator will be the solution.

Uh where'd you hear that? You're about the only person I've ever heard that has claimed Efans flow better than a clutch fan.

It doesn't make sense what you're claiming.

I Hear it when they kick on thats where. No way a stock clutch fan is going to flow 5500cfm at Idle like the efans will. Is it working? absolutly, the A/C is twice as cold when Idleing than it was with a clutch fan.. I'm not a fan of the VSC, But I do support efans...

LOL, so your reasoning is that you can "hear" them flow better.

THe clutch fan flows ~10,000 CFM. I GUARANTEE you that the ls1 fans don't flow that well.

Wouldn't Dumptrucks and Semi's use efans if they flowed that much better?

Well if I had room for a dump truck 35" clutch fan maybe thats what I would have done.... Theres No way in Hell a stock clutch fan flows 10,000 cfm at idle, And I never said I had Ls1 fans, I have FAL 282's. If there not working why is there a difference in the ac temp? People who are putting small electric fans on big radiators are the ones with cooling problems. If you shroud it so 80/90% of the air pulled by the fan comes through the radiator there shouldn't be a problem. I had an s-10 with a 327ci motor that I ran on the stock 13x13 single core radiator, made my own shroud and never had a problem..

I Agree With Randomhero On This One... Yes The Clutch Fan Flows Much Better.... But They Switched To Efans To Inflate Hoprsepower Numbers A Small Percent, But Also And More So They Put Them On To Help Them Edge A Little Better Fuel Economy Claims Out Of The New Vehicles, Not To Mention By Lessening The Parasitic Drag Of An Engine Driven Fan Also Reduces Emissions By A Small Percentage. Using Less Fuel And A Greener Vehicle...

The Efans Move Alot Less Airflow

No doubt at idle e-fans are better. But the original poster asked about towing. Let's not forget that. There's a reason you can't get a 2500HD with e-fans....

And as to your comment about small electric fans on big radiators - I am using OEM truck fans on an OEM truck radiator and still having problems.
