Default Silverado 03-07(classic) hoods and taillights questions

I have an 03 Silverado 2500HD, 6.0, 4wd, ECLB truck that I've owned for about 6 months now. The hood on my truck does not have any sort of bump like other HD hoods from that same time period that I've seen on the road. The ones I've seen on the road have been both gas and/or diesel trucks. At one point I thought possibly only the diesel trucks came with the HD bump hood, but now I've seen both ways. Was the bump HD hood something that came later, after 2003?

When I bought the truck, it had aftermarket smoked taillights on it that I don't care for. I would like to remove the smoked taillights and go back to factory red ones but they have proven difficult to find in good condition and not $$$ an arm and a leg. I have found plenty of GMC Sierra and 2002 and earlier taillights. Will those Sierra and earlier Chevy taillilghts work on my bed or were there changes made to the taillight pockets on the 03-07 Chevy Silverados?:

Thanks in advance for all replies.

I am not certain on the hoods so I won't answer that.

As far as the taillights go, the 99-07 taillights are all interchangeable. I had the 03-07 Silverado taillights on my 99 Sierra.

All 03-07 models had the same hood and grille combo for HD and non HD. The difference is in the years, 03-05 had no bump hood and a different grille to match. 06-07 had a bumped hood and different grille. The hood matches the grille so if you have an 06 hood but 04 grille it will not line up properly and look goofy.

The taillights might fit, but its a different style. The 99-03 have these clearly different colored bubbled sections. The 04-07classic is all red, (and personally looks better). You really shouldn't have any trouble finding those at a a junkyard, ebay, Clist, or silveradosierra.com is a good one (i think its allowed to post that, because its the same owner).

New taillights are SOOOOOOOOPER CHEEEEEEEEEEP. Not worth going to the junkyard for those. Available from any number of places that sell general parts stuff; 1AAuto, rockauto, lots of LED ones on ebay and Amazon if that's what you want, etc.

1. The Hood with the bump and Grill are 2005-2007 Classic 2500 and also the 2006-2007 classic 1500.

2. The tail light's will all interchange from 99-07 classic GMT 800, However the wiring harness are different from the 03-07 Classic on the Chevy Vs. the 99-02 the harness. The GMC is also different and similar to the 99-02 harness.

GM No longer sells The OEM lights front or rear. You will end up with DEPO brand replacements in a GM box. The Fitment is decent on the rear, How ever the fronts Suck...
You can find DEPO brand alot cheaper than what GM sells it for as well...

Most Aftermarket Brand Head lights will start to yellow whiten 1 year. Tail lights are Hit and Miss on Fitment and Quality.

The TYC taillights are pretty damn good in fit and appearance. I've had some on one truck for a couple years now and they still look like new. About $55/ea

I've had a few sets of aftermarket front signals and all of them fogged up after just a few months, some of them got real bad. I finally sprung for GM and they've been good for at least a year or more, so far.

BTW the China-made GM headlights suck. Only took a few months and one of mine has peeling clear, and it's a warranty replacement for one that the adjuster screw shattered the first time I touched it. If you look closely you can see the patch of peeled clear in this pic. That's a $135+ headlight

this ^^
the 05 chevy HDs were the first with the hood bump (GMC hoods stayed the same 99-07c)

and if you put the 99-07c GMC tails or pre-03 chevy tails on your 03 chevy, you'll have an extra 194 bulb free-floating on each side unless you swap (or cut) the harness. otherwise they're basically all interchangeable (except for SUVs & step sides)

Thank you everyone for the replies and clarification on the bump hood vs. the standard hood my 03 has. I never realized the bump was only on certain NBS years, and I will have to watch later 06-07 1500's for the bump hood. I never realized there were any 1500's with it. 1FastBrick's reply really covered it and laid it out well. Thank you.

It would be interesting to see how the bump hood looks with the 03-04 grille as Shakenfake mentioned. There is some discrepancy though between the posts here about when the bump hood started??? Some said 05 and later and others said 06 and later. What is the consensus and actual year break?
Is the hood and the later grill the only parts that have to swapped to get the bump hood, or are there other differences in the headlights or turn signal housings or other core support parts in the background?

I've looked at some of the aftermarket light housings and I've never been impressed with the aftermarket housings as they seem cheap vs the factory units. Are there any out there that are as good as the factory units? I've rarely seen any decent housings at junkyards or on C/L or OfferUp as they are always snatched up very quickly or they have the separation of the clear lens and look like crap.

As luck would have it, recently I scooped up a good set of 03-07 Silverado taillilghts off Ebay of all places. I think I got lucky when they weren't bid up at all. I was pretty much ready to just grab a decent set of Sierra or Tahoe/Suburban taillights and go that route as there are plenty of good condition ones out there to be had, mostly on Tahoe/Suburban/Yukons.

Thanks again all!

The Hood with the Bump and Grill.
2006-2007 Classic 1500
2005-2007 Classic 2500

FWIW, the SUV Tail Lights don't fit the truck openings. The shape looks similar however they are different.

There is a picture of what the hood looks like in this thread with the early grill.
