Thanks man. I really like the feedback. I think the nv4500 would be a good choice then. With a little more work I would be able to make it 4wd right? As far as the caddy, around here same year Tahoe’s were 6-8 grand where as I got this thing for $3500. Its been a great work truck for me and hasn’t given me any real issues and there’s no way I could replace it with another vehicle capable of doing everything it does for anywhere near the same price range so I wanna put some long overdue love into it.
There are two tahoes that I know of that had the nv4500 swap. This one that dantheman just recently bought, (not his fault that the seller ghosted me after sending PMs and trying to buy it a few months ago ), and another one thats 4wd in DC area. I only know of a Avalanche 2500 that swapped the ZF6 in. If you aren't towing heavy its probably overkill, but sounds like you will read up on your options to figure it out.
Hey man I built the 4WD Yukon in the DC area. There is a lot of great info on this site already but if you have any questions let me know. I sold it and ended up with a 03 Sierra. The truck helps more around the house since it was built in the 50s and I am always working on it. I don't think I will manual swap the truck though as I want to leave the funds open for a vintage car build in memory of my dad.

Yes the nv4500 swap can be done with 2wd or 4wd my RCSB is 4wd and Z28sixspeed Denali is 4x4. I wouldn't worry about towing with an NV4500 my neighbor has a 1993 gmc 3500 with a 454 and a NV4500 he tows triple axle goosenecks loaded with all sorts of stuff weekly. It's got over 150k and is still on the factory clutch.

Thanks for the info guys. I just got my new wheels and tires mounted up and getting them balanced tomorrow then I need to paint them and swap them on. I’m gonna weigh the current 20’s with the grandpa tires on them and see which weighs more. I have a feeling the 20” oem wheels were heavier honeslty. I almost wanna go down to a 17 or 18” wheel if I could make them look right on the truck. I also recently traded a bike I had build for a s10 zr2 that I’m gonna sell.
Once that sells that money is gonna go towards building the Escalade a bit. The first few things I want to tackle are finding the best sway bar setup I can for my truck and doing the gmt900 front brake upgrade. after that I will probably do long tube headers and the off road y pipe. I want to leave the exhaust after the y pipe stock and see how it sounds. Just gonna tackle one thing at a time.
The 22’s with 285/35 tires ended up scaling in at 72.4lbs, the 20’s with 275/55s weigh 74.8lbs. I fited one up but need to get some tuner lug nuts to get them to clear the wheels. I think they will look pretty good on the truck. This is just the wheel sitting in front of the other one but it gives you a decent idea of what it’s gonna look like. I have $250 bucks in them total.

This is my stock exhaust on a cold start. Pretty sure the muffler is wearing out but I love how it sounds. I think long tubes and an off road y will sound perfect with this muffler.
I was just giving you sort of an idea on a before and after. Mine with the factory cat back popped and cracked to much which I'm not a fan of. This magnaflow is quite until you don't want it to be. My other cammed truck I've got a jones bullet style on it that also sounded great so I was going to go that route on my black one, but amazon dropped the ball so I picked up that magnaflow it's a straight through design but S shaped inside the case.
I Used to be big into hondas myself when Carolina hondas was still thriving had more than my fair share, but that's been about a decade or so. Nice rig by the way you can make a runner out of it.
