Default How far with gas light on?

I was just curious if anyone know how far these truck will go once the low fuel light comes on. I am out at a job site, and drove my truck to the other side, and realized that my truck is on empty. The gas light has not come on yet, but the needle is right on the empty line.

The nearest gas station is about 30 miles away. Anyone think I can make it?

Mine comes on when I have about 6 gallons left, so assuming you get 12-13mpg, you should be good, just avoid flooring it the whole way, haha.

But for future reference, it is hard on the fuel pump when it's not submerged, so try to avoid running your truck until the last drop of gas.

Yrs. ago I heard a figure of 3 or 3 1/2 Gal. from empty line. They do that cause it's human nature to see how close we can get. But a Tahoe prolly has a bigger tank. And like said, bad idea for fuel pump. Gas cools it.
It's far easier to just try to keep it up above 1/4. But things happen.

BTW, I wondered before if my Harley is a 5 Gal tank, what's left at the "E" mark?
Seriously, I don't wanna find out, I sure ain't pushin 700#.

Yeah, I usually dont run it this low. I could have sworn that I had half a tank yesterday when I got to the hotel, so I did not even notice.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I will find out for sure in a couple of hours

My tank is 26 gallons, and when the light comes on and I fill it up shortly after, it takes 20-21 gallons to top it off.

I've seen it come on anywhere between 2 and 6 gallons from empty, different GM trucks. Let's hope yours is on the fat side of that. Good luck.

Well, I made it. The Truck went 21 miles with the gas light on. The gas pump maxed out at $75 so I was not able to see how much was left in the tank.

most car manufactuers try to give you a 50mile buffer when the warning lights come on
