Post help me help my gramps

ok, he got a wild hair up his *** and bought a 2010 1500 extended cab shortbed, work truck, plain jane, 4.8. he has a 5th wheel travel trailer that he wants to be able to tow. its not huge, but its not a lightweight(the trailer). i tried to tell him , without coming out and telling him, that the truck wouldnt be ideal for what he wants. well he went to get the hitch installed, and the guys there told him that the 4.8 wasnt enough engine, and the half ton suspension would just squat. well he took their word and went to the dealer yesterday to confront them about selling him a truck that wouldnt pull his trailer.now he has a crew cab 1500 with the 5.3 on order. they told him it was equipped to tow his trailer. they also told him it was a 1500hd. correct me if im wrong but there isnt a hd1500 anymore.i dont know if he got the 6 speed or the 4 speed automatic.damn , he even settled on a color he hates. because they told him that was the only color they had with the options he wanted, WTF. it wont be here till thursday
you`d think they could scare up a color he likes. my grandpa is 78, and i think they are blowing smoke up his *** and taking advantage of his lack of knowledge on these newer engines. back when engines were measured in cubic inches of displacement, instead of liters was his era. i think the gain in weight with the crew cab negates the differences in power between the 4.8 and 5.3. what do you guys think? any replies will be appreciated.

To me "5th wheel" and 1500 gas do not go together..We need more details on the wieght of the trailer...Go to the Dealer with your Gramps and the salesman..good luck..I hate when the elderly gets taken advantage of.....

i pulled a fifth wheel trailer with my 2000 4.8 with helper bags...it was a little slow getting there but pulled it down the road...now it didnt have to pull it but maybe 4 times a year but hey it did it and i didnt have to have a big 2500 12 mpg all the time truck...

well, he got a much better truck... and a new attitude about towing. he desided he'd use his old truck, that he sold to my uncle(a 99 f-250 super duty diesel, which towed fine)if he wanted to take the camper on a trip. he got a crewcab,17"alluminum rims with the low rolling resistance tires, roll out bed cover, all aluminum 5.3 with the 6speed.i think he really just wasnt satisfied with that work truck, but whatever, he seems happy.got a decent deal on it all too.

Depending on the weight of the trailer and how often hes going to be towing I would check out air bags or a timbren kit.
