Default Harmonic balencer bolt (HUH)

ok guys, i don't mean to sound like such a tool, but what is the reason to go with the longer balencer bolt( assume that also doubles for crank bolt also). Is this for the people who does a cam swap with the engine still in the truck. I am getting ready to order the gm gasket kit, it comes with a stock gm bolt, was just curious if I should get the longer on instead.. Ohh yah the engine is on the stand.. Thanks JOHN

When you put the pulley on the crank the bolt isnt long enough to engage the threads to seat the pulley so you need a longer one or do what I do. Heat the center of the crank pulley with a torch and slide it on works everytime

Just dont go overboard with the torch or you will melt that rubber crap on the crank pulley..

I put mine back on with a new stock bolt with no problems. Maybe I was lucky.

Ok thanks all I think I am just going to try the stock gm bolt that is with the kit, if I don't have any luck, I will try the heat, an arp bolt is like 30 bucks, thats alil steep for a bolt for me atleast... Thanks

i would go to the parts store and buy a longer bolt..$7 bolt is better than stripped theads in your crank..if you try to heat it make sure it goes on far enough and that you get several threads into the crank before you press it on farther

I use the heat also. Ive done a few cam swaps, and have never had to "pull" the pulley on. I always get enough heat that it will seat, and the bolt just holds it together
