Default Gonna race a buddy of mine...can I beat his Mustang?

It's pretty stock...but so is my truck. It's a friendly race, but I just wanna put him in his place. His car is a '97 4.6L and he's done a CAI, intake, plenum, TB spacer, some cheap ebay special chip, stock tune otherwise, and maybe MSD wires or some crap. Stock gears and open diff (really high gear ratio too. he has 4.10s but he hasn't installed them yet). Oh and a cowl hood. By the time I'm down there (he's in Houston), I should have my efans in, my Wester's PCM w/ the 89/91 hot tune, Outlaw CAI, TB coolant bypass, and that's about it as far as performance mods go. I do have 285/75 tires (almost 33"), but I have 4.10s. Do I have a shot at beating him??

Also at this low hp, should I worry about my front end doing a 4wd launch at all? And the truck has green keys up front. Will that be an issue?

Forget the dual fuel tune and go straight premium 93. The difference in$ is about $5 per 26gallon tank full and the performance is much better.
No worries on the 4wd launch but don't cry to me if anything breaks, lol.

Should be an interesting race....

I don't think your gonna beat him with those mods. You should have nothing to worry about launching in 4wd.

i think he has u my sister just bought a 96 gt convertible and we havent raced each other yet but driving both her car and my RCSB 5.3 4wd sierra and knowing a little bit about the 4.6 modular motor he should have u beat due to the fact of you being a crew cab and 4wd but it may be close. the mustang should be running high 14s low 15s

Oh, I'll put 93 in there anyways...I just didn't wanna put it on a straight 93 tune as I don't always have access to 93. I'll probably update soon to a 91/93.

Yeah we'll look like a couple of idiots racing stock vehicles but I have a point to prove!!

I'm not sure how westers does their tunes but, if done correctly it should not hurt you to run the occasional tank of lower octane fuel on the 93 octane tune. I just wouldn't go flogging on it hard with lower octane. If the tables are set correctly the pcm will make spark adjustments to avoid engine damage with lower octane fuel.

I know the truck's heavy, but I do have the 6.0 and 4.10s. Plus with the few mods he's got, he's still on the stock tune. Oh, he's running true duals w/ 40 series Flowmasters and the stock kitties.

I have just heard horror stories about broken tie rods, which is why I asked, but that was on the diesel guys doing boosted launches.

Oh yeah, he also has a 2900 stall. Lemme sum it up. '97 GT, 4.6L, K&N, true dual Flowmasters, intake/plenum, TB spacer, ebay chip, 2900 stall, and a cowl hood.
