I read that this morning too. I think GM has itself in a rutt that it can't climb out of.

Given the option do do it over again, I would still buy my Silverado. There is a lot to like about it...handling, performance, ride...but in the 18 months since I bought it, I've certainly noticed the lack of innovations and styles offered by GM compared to new models by Ford, Dodge, and even some of the Japanese manufacturers. Then there are the nagging quality issues...tailgate cable recall, steering shaft clunking, intermittent squeaks and rattles...not what should be acceptable in a new vehicle with a retail price of nearly $30K.

The author of the article nailed it with: It's the product, stupid. The customer just cares about being able to buy good cars and trucks with bulletproof quality and reliability, excellent value and a modicum of style.

I think GM is missing that on the first three counts. And I think we want more than just "a modicum of style". I really like the styling exercise done on my sportside, but as one member pointed out in the topic on stepsides https://ls1tech.com/forums//showthread.php?t=296905 the nice curves on the bed just don't go with the sharper angles of the front. If they had done something similar with the front fenders they could have had a great looking truck and have distinguished it from all the rest.

I've always been a Chevy fan and probably always will be, but I can't help but be a little envious of the appearance of some of the other brand trucks and some of their power options. If GM doesn't start taking note of that also, then they may go the way of some other big bureaucratic companies no longer around because with the exception of the new Vette, their car divisions are turning out just plain ugly models.

i could pee in some sand and still draw a better looking car than half of what gm has out right now. if i didnt know better id say that the executives are trying to run it into the ground. jm.02

GM needs to catch up with the rest of the automakers.

i agree with the execs making some **** poor judgement calls on which cars go to production and which ones don't. and the styling that is coming out of gm's design program is just appalling. axing the fbody was just the beginning of GM's decline. once again, time for change. out with the old and in with the new. Look what chrysler as been able to do in the last 10 years or so. from shitty cars and trucks to a contender....

Its a shame. I think they need to kill Buick. Its all my wife wants, but she can live with a Pontiac. Also, he was right on with the mini van comment. Buick and pontiac dont need mini vans. The majority of those sales would probably just have gone to chevy or saturn anyway. He was also right about stagnant models. The rarely change things from year to year, except maybe a new wheel tire combo. Since 99 the only major changes to our trucks has been a new front end and a brake upgrade. There was a time when you could easily tell each and every year, now they are the same for 5-6 years at a time. I realize it would not be profitable to change them every year, but they dont have to stay exactly the same. I love GM, but they need to do some major changing.

I know its hard to make these refridgerator-like truck aerodynamic.. but its need a little more of an aerodynamic feel to it... not so drastic like a chop-top or SSR but... something...

SSR was a nice rendition to the chevy family... however... its not really a truck... and there are mixed feelings on it being eye candy or not.
