Default Finally getting a Silverado (4.8L)

Well after months of messing around I am finally getting a Silverado 04' White SCSB 4.8L RWD. I am very excited about it and plan on doing some mods to it once I get it. I was going to do some exterior mods but I am deciding to do some performance mods instead. I think for starts I will do the free mods, UPD intake, exhuast, pullies, and new gears since it has the 3.42's w/ posi. However, before I do any mods I am going to dyno it for a good base line to see what all these mods will really do.

If you can afford the $1000 option for the 5.3, I highly recommend it. It performance wise will offer you a lot more bang for the buck, and it will get better power gains with your mods. $1000 is only $20 more a month on a 5 year loan!

Yeah, I wanted to get the 5.3L, but I am getting such a good deal on the 4.8L I couldnt pass it up. I know that the 5.3L is superior in performance but I think that the 4.8L will net me good results plus I think that ringing power out of the 4.8L will kinda be fun.

If you are performance oriented, you should not compromise by getting the 4.8. Get the 5.3 and you will glad you did in the long run. When i got my 01, I got the 4.8 because I did not know any better. Then I kicked myself in the *** for doing that. I did not know they had 2 V8 engines available.

Why is it that everytime someone says they got a 4.8, everyone talks ****? Ok, the 5.3 is stronger.......and?
If he's getting a good deal on the 4.8, then more power to you dude.

Hey, congratulations on the new truck. No matter what motor you got it doesn't matter because these are awesome trucks no matter what. Fellas, just give him some props for the new truck, jeez. At least he didn't buy a Furd or Dudge.

I'm going to put this over in the Truck Lounge

No one is talking **** about the 4.8. Hodgee and I are merely pointing him in the right direction if is going to be performance oriented, which evedently he is since he is already thinking of mods. Another thing, he has not bought the truck yet so he still has some time to change his mind. He should consider buying his truck somewhere else if they can only give him a good deal on the 4.8.

Yea, I would've bought the 5.3 but when I was putting the order in at the GMC dealer, the guy that was placing my order said there is no difference between the 2 unless you are going to be towing stuff. I knew nothing about our trucks then, so I was like, well I'll just get the 4.8 if there is no difference. Shows how knowledgeable the GM employees are about their own products
Oh well, I will be swapping in an LQ4 in the near future so it doesn't really matter.

Yeah the 5.3L engine is a great engine, and I wish it were in the truck I am getting but what can I say. However, if I do need max performance for a good price I could always do a 6.0L swap, I have about $2,500 just for mods on the truck (I have been saving for a while). From what I have been reading about, you can do the 6.0L swap for a reasonable price. What does it usually cost for a used but in good shape 6.0L engine and installation? $3000?? However, I would be afraid that the 4l60e would not like the power of the 6.0L.

Sorry, not trying to talk trash, just thought since he didn't have the truck yet, then why not and get the bigger motor. I always opt for a larger motor if possible! The 4.8 is great, and I have driven a few. If I was going all out crazy performance I would have gotten a 4.8 with a 5 speed, so that I could rip it out and do a 6.0 built with all the goodies. Once again not talking crap about the 4.8 but there would be good money savings. I have driven the 4.8 and it runs great, and better handling to boot!

Whichever you get congrats on a beauty!
