when i was in KC last weekend(puting at least 500miles on my truck) i pulled right up to the pump and put 110octane in my tank. they also had 100octane.
your right, everyone idea of daily driveable is going to be diferent. i have had daily driven vehicles that were 10times less driveable than my truck.

What your missing is this, most "race cars" in the muscle car world are not turbo charged. So then need to run a radical cam and compression to make HP (ok, there is always N2O) which require them to run race gas 100% of the time. (I'm being very general here)
Turbo's allow the user to adjust the output of the engine at a moments notice. Thus, you can turn up the boost and run race gas to make more power or turn down the boost to run pump gas and have less power. Either way, high horsepower turbo charged engines are very drive-able. Its all about power on demand.
My coworker's 11 second Grand National is a "Daily Driver". He drives it to work everyday that there is no snow on the ground. Can it run 11's on pump gas, no it cannot. So during the week he turns the boost down and runs pump gas. When he goes to the track he drains the tank and fills it up with race gas. He doesn't race on the street so there is no reason to drive in the high boost mode.
