Does GM do that on ya'll's trucks? What about on a Ford, ie Lightning?
Your truck is RATED 60hp more than a 5.3 truck. I havent seen a lot of reg cab Hemis run, but the fastest i've seen ran a 14.4. All that guy had was intake and exhaust too. A reg cab 5.3 with just an intake and exhaust will run 14.4s too. A bone stock 5.3 with the towing package usualy runs 14.7s.

You want a bone stock for stock run against a truck the same size, weight, and HP rating go race an SS. It will beat you by .2-.3. Not a big difference no, but you will loose to one. If you race a stock ext cab 5.3 you will win by a little.

The big fuss about "My Hemi is faster than your chevy" is getting old now.

Chevy underrated there LSx engines output, and Dodge overated there Hemi output. That is a fact. Another fact is both are good engines, and both make good power. Chevy has a huge aftermarket and Hemi doesnt.

Do you know the average dyno for a new Hemi? I've seen only 2, but they both were 250s to the wheels. My 5.3 with a K&N drop in and a flowpro muffler welded into the stock pipe made 259.6rwhp. I dont see a big difference there.

Show me a dyno after the "Break-in". I'd really love to see that motor put more down than 250s.

You are right snake eater..this debate will never end...However, you can't tell me that I will lose to an SS. I know I won't, unless it is not stock. I have seen several run in the 15.4-15.6 range.

And, I have never seen a stock 5.3 run anywhere in the 14's. Look at your own sig and times: "Headwork,LPE Cam,Lots of mods and tuning". All that and you are only 1 second quicker???

So bottom line, nothing gets settled.

I have an ext cab. I was refering to the reg cabs running 14.7s stock. I know all dont, but most 2wd's do.

I like the new Dodges and Dodge Rams used to be LAST on my list of cool truck. Now they are near the top.

IMO stock for the stock the Dodge looks nicer than the GMs AND Fords. Add some aftermarket appearance stuff and it gets cloer but for a burte force look I don't think you can beat the SRT-10!

As for power I think they are so close it doesn't matter but I would still give the nod to the Hemi if all things were equal. The GMs are lighter so it makes it a tough call.

Who really cares though, most of us doing the debating don't keep our **** stock anyway so all bets are off. If i smoke the hell out of an SRT-10 I'm not gonna think to myself that Dodges suck. I'm just gonna know I modded mine more than that particular guy.

I know a couple of guys at work that have the Hemi in thier dodges. I asked them if they know what makes a Hemi different from a regular motor and they had NO idea.
My truck is stock and so it thiers and I have raced both of them and mine was faster all through the range. We tried a rolling 30, 50, and 70 and a launch.

What if someone put a stock Hemi in a chevy? would it be faster than a stock chevy

Well since I've had both trucks, I have a little knowledge on the 5.3L vs 5.7L debate (and I mean A LITTLE). Stock for stock, my 04 Ram would beat my old 00 Silverado, Quad Cab vs Ext Cab, both 2wd. My infamous 0-60 stop watch testing had my Silverado do a 7.35 0-60 time after about 500 miles, my Ram did 0-60 in 6.75 after 500 miles. My Silverado responded better to mods, intake and exhaust lowered my 0-60 time to about 7.0 flat, intake in exhaust on my Ram did almost nothing. I'm told it's the Speed Density system on the Hemi vs the MAF system of the Vortec, I dunno, don't know much about either. I always felt my Silverado lacked low end torque stock but reved very well. The Ram has better low end although is still sluggish but I think that it's weight and the damn 33" tall tires (275/60R20) it's trying to turn has something to do with it and it too revs very well. I liked my Silverado and I like my Ram, both a very nice trucks, different in several ways but very nice.

You would have the single cab SS everyone who likes GM wants!

TOD,

i spoke with my friend today and he told me he had more than the 150 hour break in period, this friday he is going to take his 04 chevy 5.3, 3:42 truck to see what it runs, i will be sure and let u know..

Y2k,

your 00 silverado would turn different 0-60 times if it was a 04 silvy, they have gotten stronger also just like dodge has. when is the hemi going down the 1320? thats a comparison right there.

I agree. Those 03-4 Silverado's are faster than the 00's.

Well, either way, whichever is faster, at least both Chevy and Dodge are faster than the F150, Tundra, Nissan... :-)
