i think the vortec's are faster..

my friend just traded in his 04 hemi for a 04 chevy, he hasent run it yet, but i will see formyself what it does, his 04 with exhaust and intake ran a 15.0, slow in my opinion..

Hey rgvsierra, how many miles were on the 04?

Stupid DC (Mopar Direct Connection) put a 150 hr break in program where it really backs down power alot. At first, us Hemi guys didn't know that and complained of the lack of power at the track and on the dyno. For instance, my 4 door, which is stock except for a home made cold air intake went 15.69 when I first got it. This is with the stock 20" rims, tail gate, etc. After the break in period, I went 15.18.

As for the comment about the SRT-10....well, we aren't even talking about that. We are talking about the Hemi. But..since you brought it up... I am kinda dissappointed in the SRT-10. Seems like most of them are running mid 13's, with a few that claimed they have finally got some 12.9's-12.7's, still stock. Maybe they need a break in period too, or drivers that have to get used to how the trucks like to be driven. Either way, I would have though 12.7-12.9's right out of the gate..... Oh well...

I was just refrencing the srt-10 for a kind of power to weight example, but the hemi's really aren't that far off of the SRT in the 1/4 to be a good example. I am sure the SRT would destroy just about any truck on a highway pull. The truck we saw run at SAR was really pulling hard on the top end, it was some sort of special edition with 600 hp (it wasn't impressive at all). You seem to have one of the faster Hemi's that I have heard of. I haven't seen a single cab hemi run that fast at my track.

i ran a single cab hemi at the track a while back. he had intake and exhaust done along with the 20's and 3.90 gear. i had intake and exhaust along with some plugs and wires with 16's and 3.42 gear. he dialed in a 15.60 to my 15.30 and at the end, i caught him and posted a better et. granted, i broke out and so did he. but that is when i started thinking something was up with the HP numbers on the hemi. In his defense, i do not know how many miles was on his truck. so maybe he wasn't done with his break in period.

I bought an 03 Thunder Road Edition Hemi quad cab and 3 weeks later my buddy bought an 03 gmc rc. Amazingly we run side by side, both run 9.6 1/8 mile. BUT he spent a grand on mods and I needed a pair of binoculars just to see his tail lights and I couldn't buy or do anything about it. Well after being spanked like a baby a few times I am now the very proud owner of an 04 silverado rcsb. Hemi is decent and with mods probably awesome but you can't take but so many spankings from a chevy until you trade one!!!!!!! Just my .02

To be honest,I think they look 100% better than they did when the older body style was out.4 years ago they were one of the uglies trucks, but of course fords are ugly as hell to.The new ram is decent lookin in my opinion.

I drove the guy nxet door's 04 quad cab hemi and the little bit I put my foot into it wasn't impressive (a little bit of kickdown on I 35). I think my 04 ecsb 4.8 with a fipk would give it a go.
Now,the old mopars had some *****...my first car was a 71 340 Demon,4 spd with 3.55 posi..(they killed the 340 in 72 by dropping to 8.5:1). Some people remember them as being pretty quick. A friend in HS had a 66 Coronet with a 426 with headers, suspension, tires and a built trans...now that puppy would run!

Guys, remember the ole "break in program". When I test drove mine for the first time, I was thinking, "ok, it does have decent power, but not as much as I thought it would"... Course, I had a quad cab with the 360 (rated at 245 hp) so anything seemed faster. So guys, if you just go test drive one, it will be down on power.

Does GM do that on ya'll's trucks? What about on a Ford, ie Lightning?

Yes, it's on our trucks. I swear on my old z71, it seemed like it let up at 5k and again at 10k. The mileage got better and the performance pisked up a god bit. I couldn't tell on my new truck because I had already had it running low 14's by the time the 10k mark came around.
