Cold Natured
#2
I think it points to a problem and is not something unavoidable or inevitable. A newer engine might have a IAC tha's dirty, for instance,or something else faulty in the system that is just for cold start/run situations. Carbed engines sooner or later will develop choke (or choke pull-off) problems.
I had a 86 305 that had a bad vac. break (pull-off) diaphragm that had a pin hole. It looked like it was working(moving the choke butterfly)but would run really rich until the choke opened-up.
I guess this pertains to stock engines that have well-designed cold start/run systems that are working right. HP and other special applications may not have much,if any,cold-run stuff.
