Just fyi its a total pita and it's a bitch to re install. Try pulling the larger round plug in the bellhousing instead.

Just be sure to unhook your battery first.

Its rather easy to get out if you remove the oil dipstick. Then you should be able to slide it twords the front of the truck and drop it down. I usually zip tie it up out of the way and get the converter bolts when I am pulling a trans. BTW I do not disconnect the wires either.

You need the 2001-below valve seals part numbers 12457652 & 12533586. The 2002 and later are a one piece valve seal/spring seat combo and will not work with the dual springs. The duals have their own spring seat. Just get these seals from GM and get those springs and cam installed. Joe.

how many bolts hold the oil pan on it doesn't seem to want to drop down.

I'm in the middle of my cam swap and I discovered you don't have to drop the starter to lock the motor. You just have to take off the plastic cover below the starter, that will expose a big chunk if the flywheel to work with. I then stuck a piece of 5/16 rod left over from my lifter tool between the teeth and the skidplate.

I didn't have to drop the pan. But there are two bolts on the bottom of the timing cover that have to be removed. Hope you have a set of gear wrenches.
