One night I was at the street races out in the country and a GMC quad cab long bed DMax Smoked a Lightning, although I don't know what the DMax had the Lightning had Slicks, tuning, and I think he said something about pullies.

Chingon
5-6K Supercharger and install
1k Lowering and sway bars
1k+ Tires and rims
2-3k Tranny
1k headers
------------
10k or more
now you have somethin that will compete with a lightning
(handling and at the track),but for nearly the same price. also, you may have just voided your warranty.
All, im saying is like gator mention, you get a great sports truck for a decent price, and its all ready to go (lightning). It is more fun to do it the hard way, and build it, but you need to look at what gators sayin. afterall, ford and dodge have built some sweet single cab sport trucks, whens chevy gonna join? I am a die hard chevy fan, but still ford is pretty cool for doin what they did. I agree with you on the looks chingon. your truck beats the looks of any ford i've seen, and i dont like how ford stuck the supercharger on there. I like buyin a truck and havin the option of either going blown, or keepin it n/a if you prefer. thats just me tho

not against anyone. just the way i view this

First off all, pull your head out and listen to what I said. The Lightnings are quite possibly the best sport truck ever made (sans Syclone). What I am saying is spend equal money on 2 trucks. One Ford Lighning and a comprably equipped Chevy. Since Chevy does not offer a truck to compare, you would have to go aftermarket. So go aftermarket and equip the Chevy with the duplicate mods of a Lightning and then you can have something to argue about. Get this stright, I'm not knocking Lightnings at all. I would own one in a second. I'm saying there is no argument for a Chevy to a L from the factory since they are apples and oranges. Make them both oranges then compare. Sheez!!!!!!!! No lame argument here, just trying to explain that there is no comparison to stock trucks. Notice I never said the Chevy would kick it's ***! Better yet, quit trying to compare period until GM makes a factory comparable truck. Everything you say about Lightnings I agree with, but you don't have to get arrogant about it. Hell, if GM doesn't get off thier *** and do something, I may be inclined to consider one in a few years when I'm done with what I have now.

Who cares about price?? All that matters is that your truck is faster than the one next to you.

There is always a cheaper way to build a faster car. If it was all about doing it the cheapest way possible, we wouldnt be buying $30k+ trucks and trying to brag about how one person could build a 12 second ford easier than the chevy guy could build the 12 second truck.

All I know is lightnings are pretty quick stock. and there are some cheap mods that can give some good HP increases, but any FI car is that way. You just turn up the boost and your done.

I dont care how much money I have in my "slow" SS. Lightning owners can talk **** on it, but they better hope that they have some money into their truck or their "fast" truck is gonna be embarassed by the "slow" and heavy *** extended cab.

anyways, when I ran at Carlsbad last month, there was an 02 lightning there running 14.2s all day. I also raced a brand new one a little while ago and got him by about 3 1/2 cars. Ive seen a few run right in this range at california speedway as well. So Id say they are good for a 14.2-13.8 range stock. At least around here anyways.

Greg and others, i am NOT trying to be arragant, but there are so many on here that either are lying to themselves or are very ignorant about the competition. believe me, i LOVE GM. own two right now and looking for a (of all things) a new truck (duramax though). but the comparision about money being thrown out, if you put boltons and a blower on a properly built 5.3L it WILL make power, probably as much or more than a stock L - but the motor is still built with silicon based pistons and will fail much easier. i wasnt trying to come in and say that the L is teh all mighty, far from it. they are the best drag truck ever built in full size form and i am personally frustrated that GM isnt interested in this market, but my beef is people saying "well i seen Ls run 14.2-14.5 all day" - get the hell out of here. in the SICK heat of Florida they run 13.9-14.0 or better all day with a retard behind the wheel, UNLESS they are total gimps and just floor it and spin. then ofcourse they will run slow. unfortunately, most GM trucks dont have to worry about wheel spin

also the comparison of a deeply moded GM truck (deviating hugely from stock) versus a stock L isnt fair at all. we all know this. stock is for .....well, NONE of us, and that includes the ford camp. adding 100+ rwhp and a godful amount of tq with cheap mods on an L is more a real world comparison. personaly when i think of an L, i dont think 14.0/13.9 stock i think of 12.9-13.1s with mild boltons you can do in your driveway. i respect that big time. i also appreciate taking a mid 15 sec truck and running 13s as equally cool.

Well, we finally agree. I'm not trying to say mod a GM to make it unfair either. I guess I can't make the words for what I am trying to say, so I give up. But I was in no way implying to make a aftermarket GM an unfair advantage. Just build one with similar parts.

ok, this is from a nationally sold magazine. A BONE STOCK 2003 Lighting:

This article was a shoot-out of the SS, HEMI, and Lighting.
The SS ran 15.79 @ 87.47
The HEMI ran 15.98 @ 86.84
The magazine is SPORT TRUCK, (a sister magazine I believe to TRUCKIN')
Article is on page 51 and the magazine was displayed 10/14/03

Here is a link of a scan of the full page that the above crop was taken from
http://img23.photobucket.com/albums/...lighting-2.jpg

SO with all this brought to the table, I will believe a magazine over someone who says there lighting ran 13.5's stock but will still keep in mind weather/elevation/driver etc.
Also, may I remind you how often people lie about the mods done to their vehicle.

And if you want to buy a new Chevy that comes from the dealership with a SC, under warranty, and can spank a STOCK Lighting.... well you can:
