Default 07 Silverado Crew - Electronic nightmare!

Hey guys, I'm a regular at www.ls1tech.com - but recently traded my 04 silverado on a 07 (new body style) with the am/fm - cd xm stereo unit.

About a week after I got the truck the clock starting resetting to 12 on its own, then the radio would drop out. When the radio drops out there is no display at all AND the blinkers won't make the click noise. The onstar and phone goes out too when this happens. It will then just cycle back on - sometimes not at all when I am driving - but of course it will within a block from the dealer as I bring it in.

It seems to cycle on for about 3.5 hours (I can tell by the time on the clock) then drops out.

Dealer has replaced the radio 1x
BCM 1x
checked all grounds and connections
It is in the shop now to replace the radio again ??????

There is a software problem with one of the other radios - but not this one.

I only have 600 miles on the truck and have owned for only 3 weeks.

I seriously doubt another radio swap will fix it.

I love this truck - and there is no way they will replace it over this problem - but I am frustrated.

Anybody hear of this? Any tips or tricks to fix? The dealer is desperate too as they are being told by GM that even GM doesn 't know what it is.

My dad has been having a similar problem with his NNBS 07 CC. For some reason his will just stop charging and the battery will completely run down. Then it will work for a while, then stop working.... The dealer can't find anything wrong with the battery or the alternator..... His has 2300 miles on it and it has been back to the dealer 4 times....

I think there is some sort of ground issue on the new trucks. I have had a few little hickups nothing like that. It seems to just happen without any rim or reason. And if they can't fix it they need to replace the whole truck. Thats the reason for lemon law but you need to take it atleast three times for the same problem and document everytime it does it.

It could be as "simple" as an open wire connection in a junction or relay block, or more involved like a solid state or logic issue. I had a similar problem on a new Lexus where the nav screen would shut off for a second, as well as the radio, steering wheel controls, etc. When everything came back on, the presets, as well as the clock and other retained memory functions had to be reset. After a few hours of diagnosis and swapping a few parts from one of our demo's, I finally determined that the radio head unit was at fault.

When the problem would occur, it would happen every 13 to 18 minutes consistently. Factory engineers from both Denso and Pioneer came to the dealership to film and document the occurrence for their own research for future use....their have been compatability problems between different units, as they are often made by different manufacturers. I wouldn't doubt that some of the electrical items in your dash are made by Delco, while others are Denso, and who knows who else.

I hope they get it fixed for you real soon...I understand how frustrating it can be. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. Good luck!

It certainly has to be a short of some kind causing power to drop from the circuit that feeds the clock memory and power "up" for the radio.

You know how when you turn the key off the radio will stay up for 2 minutes unless you open the door - then it turns off. It is as if that circuit won't keep constant power when the key is on. To add to that, the clock goes back to 12. I would imagine a relay that feeds that power - but I don't think this has that as it all goes through the BCM - which they replaced.

They called yesterday after the most recent radio replacement and said at 3.5 hours the whole system shut down again.

I have to wait until Monday now as the shop foreman is out and they claim he has to be the one that contacts GM tech for help.

I am in a pickle as I'm between my hot rod cars to get to and from work, and Lord only knows how long those will run! My wife is driving the recently finished LS2 powered 85 Vette and I am bouncing between the 69 LS1 camaro and 69 Vette. Not that I am complaining - but I'm making monthy (or will start very soon) payments on this really nice truck that is hostage up at the dealer!

I don't think they lemon law for things like this - I think it has to be a drive train or saftey issue. I might argue loss of the the blinker audible and no On-star or handsfree phone poses some risk when the vehicle is otherwise equiped, but my guess would be I'll get the short end of any lemon stick. I just want it fixed, and I will ask for an extension to my XM and On-star service since I can't use it right now.

You can Lemon law ANYTHING if you have problems with it 3 times for same concern... ANY tech can call technical assistance, our oil change boy can call them... far as your problem goes, yes it sounds like a ground, or open connection at a junction block.... If you fuss enough, the service manager can get involved and call and get an engineer envolved... Just let them know about you are making payments on a NEW truck and cant drive it b/c they cant figure out whats wrong with it... You will get alot further if you are pleasant about it, but if nothing gets done, then you should get ill and go see the sales manager. When he gets envolved the service managers butthole will get extremely small, and he will help you

turns out it may be a fuse block to harness connector problem. They made a temp fix and put the fuse block on order. It is backordered for about 30 days, but I can pick the truck up today and see how it does. Once the block comes in I'll go back and have it installed.

I don't know if the back order is a sign of a "known" problem with these things and they are behind in getting them out to dealers, or what....I just hope this is it.
