Horsepower Gains
Customers have been seeing about 24-34hp from the 5.3, 28-50hp from the 6.0 and 25-55 horsepower from the 8.1 motor. This spread depends on how aggressive the tuning is along with other modifications that are done to the vehicle. Fine tuning for other mods will sometimes make more of a different than just running those with the stock programming.

PCM cores -

You will need to send your factory PCM into Wester's after you install the new computer. We will do a "core authorization" on your card to cover this computer until it is returned. The authorization won't be an actual charge, but it will hold the money for us in case the core isn't returned. The core amounts are -

Most computers up to 2002 - $175.
2003 - $350.
2004 - $450.

This authorization will be voided after your core is returned.

Orders can be placed online or by calling 1-877-4-TBYRNE (1-877-482-9763). We will need to fax or e-mail you a form to fill out for the Wester's programming. This will have to be filled out and faxed to 1-508-679-5159.

I have a bone stock 5.3 '01 suburban and installing the 87-91 octane westers tune has been great so far.

overall the truck is a bit quicker overall with my highly calibrated butt-dyno.

Seriously though, it took about a tank of gas to really feel some gains. The shifts are quicker but not really on the level of a shift kit. Just a quicker transition to the next gear. Overall power is up, and MPG is up on the order of 2-3MPG in the city! So now you can justify your purchase as it will eventually pay for itself.

 

I'm very happy with my 93 hot tune, if I could keep my foot out of it I might notice some mpg increases

 

So whats the price to get the westers tune for a 2002 4.8. Lookiing for a tune to get things like gas mileage and more performance but dont need a overly aggresive tune. If u dont wanna say the price on here please do it through PMs i rarely check email

the 175 is only charged out if you don't return a core. some people get a used 1 from the wreckers or others like me just return the original
