Default Z06 cam in 5.3-good idea????

I'm getting my Z06 cam installed sometime soon, hopefully. Furthermore, is it worth it? It is a cam from the 2002 ls6 engine. Im cant remember the specs, but has anyone had good luck with it? Also, if anyone else has done the swap, what kind of power is expected. I plan to get a custom tune from a shop in my area after the swap. any help would be greatly appreciated.

If I was going ls6 cam I would the 01 and not the 02+. I have an 01 ls6 cam and springs for sale if you want them.

i agree, we need something, somewhere. z06 cam questions are too frequent. and a search pulls up so many damn results, it's hard to sift through.

Well, im no expert on this at all, but from what ive read (several times) it seems like the 01 z06 cams are better for our trucks, as i think they're better down low than the 02+ cam, i think i heard people saying that you might need a stall if you were to do the 02+. And I also think people have said that the 02+ isnt worth swapping in as there are cams far better suited for our trucks.

Back in the 50's there weren't many aftermarket cams around so Corvette cams were pretty highly prized by the stock 283 guys around here (if you had an Isky cam you were THE MAN ) but today If I'm going to do a cam I'm going to go to a cam manufacturer, tell them what I've got now and ask for a recommendation based on that and what I want to do with the truck. Troque or Power? Race or pull stumps?

The Vette engine is a nice piece but not so nice that individual parts from it will make a big change in a truck motor. Cams aren't all that expensive. Call Crane/Comp/Edelbrock/somebody and get what will really make a difference and get the rest of the valve train that will work right with the cam.

In 1961 I was 18 and had a 265 bored .030 over, Vette Cam & heads, dual quads. Spun a bearing trying to spin 8K. Put it back together and a friend had some Racer Brown roller springs. I put them on the heads thinking I'd done something really cool. It took about 2 weeks to flatten the cam. An old racer from town that ran a C Gas car that was only about .5 sec off the national record at the time (that was before the Tree... had a guy with a flag in the middle of the track so a 1/2 sec was pretty close) told me that would happen but I knew more than him!

has anyone that just commented had a '02 Z06 cam in their truck, or are you repeating what someone else said?

I don't think it is really trial and error, the cams are just very small and why replace a stock cam with another stock cam, doesn't make since to me.

I had one for a while. It picked up exactly 0 (zero) in performance. I ran the exact same numbers at the track with it as I did with the stock cam. This was in a stock 6 liter with the Whipple, naturally aspirated might be a different story though.
