I always see these oil pans and tranny pans that are supposed to hold more fluid and keep things a little cooler. Would it be a good idea to get these?

On my LS1 shortblock build-up, would it be better to use an aftermarket oil pan or the truck oil pan?

Would an aftermarket oil-pan fit around the truck suspension ??....the truck pans AFAIK are different than the f-body or 'Vette pans

 

I've got a B&M deep pan on my tranny. With my new transmission my temps have not gone over 180, plus it hods 2 extra qts of fluid. Well worth the cooling benefit in my opinion.

If you increase fluid capacity, in theory you should also increase cooling capacity. I have one of the B&M pans on my F150. It's a very nice unit, while it was costly.

It has a drain plug that comes out!, cooling fins, made from aluminum, etc.

The GM 4x4s have a 1qt deeper pan than the 2x4 vehicles...

 

i got the mag hytec trans pan last time i had my fluid changed. it's supposed to hold something like 7 more quarts ? seems high. anyway it was about double. hav'nt noticed a dramatic drop in temp but it takes longer to heat up and seems more stable. of course this is off my crappy dash gauge. the cool thing about them is they have a magnet that picks up metal particles and helps keep them out of the filter. i've had the rear end cover since i changed gears, the magnet actually had a fine layer of metal particles on it last change. figured it would pay off in the long run. e

 

How much do these different ones cost and were to get them? Thanks for the info guys!

 

b&m has been around a long time, most speed/4x shops carry them. the shop i go to sells alot of the mag-hytecs so they had them in stock. like anything else these days, do a search you can usually buy right off their site, or at least they'll have a list of their retailers. 4l80e trans pan $300 10.5 diff $245 for the mag. i'd go to a shop though, they're not hard installs but messy. e
